JaayWThe Baratza Encore is pretty popular as such an upgrade.

FancyRedFoxThat is one grinder that keeps popping up in my search, have you heard any comparisons between the Encore and Breville's Smart Grinder Pro (on my watch list)?
I'm just an amateur looking to try and pull a nice espresso without a pressurized basket :(

JaayWUnfortunately not. I've used some of Baratza's grinders before so I can vouch for them, but the only other home use grinders I have experience with are the Capresso unit I have at home (for pour overs) and the grinders that Hario produces.
What are you currently using to pull espresso?

JaayWDo you have a budget in mind? I tend to recommend the Baratza Preciso as an entry level barebones espresso grinder ($299, but discontinued). If you can find one, it's adequate for many home machines, but can be a little frustrating to work with. Sometimes you can find a used Mazzer Mini or Super Jolly for a similar price used, you'll just need to clean them up and possibly change the burrs (an added expense). A Mazzer is not a multipurpose grinder however, so it will more or less need to be dedicated to espresso. I've heard mixed reviews about the Breville grinders, but I do know folks who really love theirs.

JaayWYeah then I would say really seriously look at your budget. If you're making 1+ cups of espresso per day then I would say get the best possible one you can. Something like a Baratza Sette 270 wouldn't be absurd at all. If you wanted to go up to a Rocket Fausto or a Eureka Atom you certainly could, but you'd definitely be longing for a better espresso machine before your Breville wears out. Also, I don't think either of those expensive options offer drip/pourover capabilities.

steverhinehartMy budget is around $250 for a grinder right now, I'm exploring right now with different brewing styles such as pour overs, French press and aeropress. So having the option for more than just an espresso grind would be amazing.

Dr.McCoyDamn those are a bit out of my budget right now (university student) which is why I looked at the Encore and Breville for the option to create more than espresso. But I'll definitely look into those models if I change my mind!
