There Are Pandas, and Then There Are Pandas.
And this isn't either of them! The Pandas we're talking about here, are watches, not bears. And what got me thinking about them (again) was a link posted this morning by @cm.rook who pointed a few of us to the very attractive (and not terribly priced) Yema "Rallygraph" Panda which, in it's most traditional arrangement, looks like the one on the left, but can also be had in the version on the right: The model on the left is a true Panda, while the model on the right is called a reverse Panda. The reason for that distinction is clear--Panda bears, only come in the first arrangement. Now at this point, everyone should be thinking about the most well-know Panda, The Rolex Panda, which is actually a Daytona, and among Rolex Daytonas, the most famous of which is the Paul Newman Daytona, which was famous first, because it was Paul's, and second because it sold at auction for $17.8 million (US Dollars). Also if you're only taking one or two knives, you can easily carry them with just the guards on without a bag (though the bag does let you carry more knives at once and may be a bit safer since the knives are in an extra thing)
Some knives also have specifically built sheaths, but I find the higher up in quality you go with your knife, the less likely the company will have a form fitted sheath for it.
You can get an inexpensive knife roll too, if you want one.
I have only had this situation occur about a half dozen times, so there really isn't a need to have a specialized tool for the job. A simple kitchen towel will do. Just spread them out so no knife touches another and roll them up. There is an extremely unlikely occurrence that you would need more than 3 knives, so this method works 100% of the time for me. Just don't be dumb and damage the tips.
Buy those plastic blade covers and you're good to go. As "best value" for a home cook, I'd recommend Messermeister brand Victoinox makes GREAT "blade safes" for each knife. A little higher priced, but really nice. I DO think it's worth the few extra dollars to get a "blade safe" vs just the sleeves
