Best Audiophile Headphone for Gaming?

more_vert
Hi, I'm by no means an audiophile but would like to treat my self to a premium pair of headphones. I will be using them predominantly for gaming and casually listening to music (top 40/hip hop). I'd like the headphones to be able to locate footsteps whilst having a decent bass. I've heard great things about the DT1990 Pro and HD660s which fit my budget of around $600.

Interestingly this thread came up the other day as well. I mentioned some things there: https://drop.com/talk/28375/best-drop-gaming-headphones?discussion=true That said, a budget of $600 is a good number to work with. If you're interested in music AND gaming, I'd probably say the Drop HD6XX (basically a HD660 but cheaper), with a decent amp/dac (JDS atom + Topping D50s, or Topping DX3 Pro if you want all-in-one). As I said in the previous thread, any decent quality open headphones should be good, but when you want both worlds going with music first is usually more important since you're more likely to be critical there as opposed to gaming (because gaming is easier to be pleased with, music is much more personal). Beyer Dynamics are more polarizing than Sennheisers (I'm not a huge fan of Beyer Dynamics, personally), which is why I recommended the HD6XX. But personal choice may vary, I like AKG K702/K712/K7XX a lot for both gaming and music, for instance. Hope this helps some!
