DAC+AMP combo for HD6xx

more_vert
Hi Guys,
Recently joined the HD6xx drop via a 3rd party importer. Now looking for a decent DAC+AMP combo for it. Seriously considering Aune X1s as its in my budget (300$). What I like about Aune X1s is the possibility to get Aune X7s in future and make an Aune stack lol.
I would really like your opinion if this is a good deal or should I consider something else that fits this budget and may drive HD6xx better.
Thank you very much.

Not too many people talk about it but I think Apogee Groove is great and very compact to carry around. Sennheisser even used to sell as a set HD650 & Groove. It can be used as a DAC/AMP or as DAC/Preamp. I used it both ways and I really enjoy it using it as a preamp with my Dark Voice. Check their web page http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/groove It costs like 250 USD and you can get it refurbished for around 200 USD.
Good luck

I have the 6xx and an Aune X1S and a DarkVoice 336SE. The X1S is a good DAC. Does well feeding my powered speakers and the DV336SE. As an amp I'm not impressed with the X1S when paired with the 6xx. On the other hand, the DV336SE was made for the 6xx. My living room setup is Chromecast Audio -> DV336SE -> 6xx. If your looking for an Amp for the 6xx, get the DV336SE.

The HD6XX are regarded to sound best with a tube-amp. The Darkvoice 336SE (200$) is by far the best value but you can only get it at this price on Massdrop and then you have to be very quick. The Schiit Vali 2 (150$) isn´t a "full tube-amp" but you can get a warmer tube like the EH 6922 (~15$) I would get a Modi 2 Uber (150$) as a DAC for either one of these.
Alternatively a solidstate would be more flexible: The Audio-GD NFB (330$) is supposed to be really good. Or the Aune X1 that you mentioned is also quite good.
I would read some impressions of the amps and decide what you want the HD6XX to sound like. Tubes generally make the sound warmer and give you a wider soundstage and SS have a really clean sound-signature.

U should get the X7s first! Amps will make more of a difference then DACs. My ultimate advice is save your money and get something really good (600$ budget at least). What comes to mind.
Lyr 3 w/ Multibit module - 699$ Jotunheim w/ Multibit module - 599$ Massdrop x Cavalli Liquid Carbon X - 349$ Massdrop x THX AAA™ 789 Linear Amplifier - 349$ (For both amps, they are in the works making a super balanced DAC to pair with there amps) Aune S6 - 569$
All those amps to me are pretty much end of the line for any casual listener, u save money by not losing money upgrading slowly and having to sell your old stuff. U got yourself a great headphone but unfortunately it sounds best with better gear and lots of power. The X7s isn't bad at all its pretty powerful and will do a good job (same specs as the Aune S6), I'm just not so sure about the X1s.
