What has happened to MassDrop?

more_vert
I have been gone about two years and return to find a completely a different shopping experience. Even though Spring is upon us...I can count ALL the outdoor items on less than my 10 fingers. Is this the norm now from Drop? Thanks

I was wondering the same thing, my last order was around 2019 before the drop rebranding I think. The site is so weird now, only mechanical keyboards and headphones? There was so much cool stuff before. I found things that I never would have found without massdrop. Is there a good replacement site similar to how massdrop was a few years ago? If I wanted only keyboards and headphones I would use literally any other website.

Yeah all they have now is headphones and keyboards. Boring. Where are the watches shoes boots belts knives coats etc. Electronics are a dime a dozen elsewhere

Drop has decided to move to Amazon, apparently. I don't understand how or why. I love the idea behind Drop. Basically a big group of us making a large order, getting a good product at a great price, because we all benefit from the discount on the large order, but at the sacrifice of time because we have to wait for a little longer to get the product. When I buy from Amazon, it is because I am in a bind and need something I can't buy locally (right away) but need in the next couple days. I end up paying a higher price for the item then I could find if I had more time to shop around. I also take a risk that the item I get is not exactly what I'm looking for. I can't even count the number of times that the item I received was not a good quality (2 laptop chargers in the last 6 months that both died 3 months after I bought them). It would seem that Drop is just going to become another Amazon seller. Unfortunately, this means that I probably won't be buying from Drop anymore unless I'm in a bind and they happen to have the lowest price to get something in 2 days. :(

jchollowIt's funny how that was the way of things at one time but I can't even remember the last time I saw a item that actually needed to get a certain amount of people to join for it to succeed. Remember when they had tiers of the discount you would get if so many people joined? That is all gone now. This is just another retail store now.

pwnerman@pwnerman I'm pretty sure that every purchase I've made from Drop has been that way, but you are probably correct. Looking at my last transaction, it was over a year ago. I checked and I committed to the purchase a month and a half before it shipped, so that sounds like it was waiting for people to "join the drop". I am surprised that it's been over a year, but it has been a weird year so my sense of time is also weird. I'm not sure if the reason I haven't purchased from Drop in a year is because they switched from "drops" to more of a retail store or because of the weird year, or some combination of both. As I said, a lot of my purchases were drops that someone I knew was participating in or I saw in an email and I encouraged others to join in. However, with "drops" gone, it does change the feel a lot (no longer a group dynamic). I hope it works well for them, but I doubt I'll be a regular customer.

Same. I got some really, really good and unique stuff off of this site back in 2017, and 2018. From large, really awesome stainless steel water bottles, Old timey wax stamps, that I use on occasion because its... Just COOL. Now its a shallow site with just a few things. Why did they change? Has anyone found any announcements from the site, or did they just slowly make the transition from a very rich catalogue of stuff, to an extraordinarily shallow offering. I hope another website will pick up where massdrop left off.
