A hardware implementation will always be better but also more expensive than a software implementation of any technology. Just because something costs more money doesn't make it bad. Ask any server engineer which is better hardware RAID vs software RAID or ask a network engineer which is better hardware switching or software switching. I can guarantee they will answer hardware every time.

CaptainranThat is no longer the case for RAID. Software RAID implementations are overtaking hardware nowadays because you can get the full power of a multicore CPU behind the RAID implementation, which is cheaper and more portable than dedicated RAID cards.
