I used to own a philips ambilight TV, and I have been waiting to get my hands on something else like it. If these were available, I'd definitely buy them.

right now, but on my 23" monitor it's a mess of wires and grouped LEDs (displays one color per group, as opposed to per LED), so the AmbiLED HD should be quite an upgrade. Just keep in mind that AmbiLED HD ( and Lightpack) requires a PC to send the lighting data to the LEDs over USB.
For reference, you would need only ~250cm of LED strip for a 34" 16:9 monitor. You can use this tool: http://www.silisoftware.com/tools/screen.php to calculate your screen height and width from its diagonal and aspect ratio.
