The 900 series would drop at least $100 below retail, probably much more. The A900X have been as low as $140. The 700 series would drop at least $80 below retail. Everyone says that the extra bit of money for the 900 series instead of the 700 series is worth it.
I would really suggest the AD900X. It is supposed to have one of the best sound stages of any pair of open headphones. http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/headphones/996daf096c12ea16/
500 series is supposed to not be very good.
