I personally think that would be a great idea. There have been plenty of gold trim Pelikan drops so far. I'm curious to see how folks respond to rhodium trim in comparison.
Wow @writeon, that's a lot of rhodium all in one place ! While this would be quite an offering, there are a few things that make a drop like this unlikely:
1) The many variations and combinations of colors, trims, nib sizes, etc. make fountain pen drops complicated to structure and present in a logical way, collect orders for, and fulfill accurately.
2) Also, we display one photo and price (at the lowest drop point) up front, and we don't want to show a price or picture that misrepresents the product being offered.
3) We sometimes run drops of a pen model that is offered in styles at different prices, and list those price differences in the description note and on the options at check-out. However, we give some thought to the costs of 'upgrades' relative to the pen's MSRP.
We put a lot of thought into how to present similar models, styles, lines, etc. in the best way for members, and I appreciate you taking time to let us know what you'd like to see listed.
P.S. - Does anyone want M400 Ballpoints or Rollerballs if we can offer them on a future drop?
No problem, Jonas. Hopefully the blue M405 will be one of those options. The 5 in M405 indicates pens with silver trim. The M400 is only available with gold trim, which I don't really care for. I realize more people will be willing to buy an M400 offered in a variety of colors, but I was hoping to start a drop for folks that want a silver trimmed Pelikan. Whatever works, though. Thanks!
The M800 and M1000 are represented in other polls. I was hoping to instigate a drop for the most affordable gold nib Pelikan. Even at Massdrop prices, I won't be buying an M800 or M1000.
Hi @NickelOak, thanks for starting this poll - I hope we can make it happen.
I changed the title because it was very specific, and a potential drop for the Souveran M400/405 would likely be for a variety of colors and nib sizes. Hopefully, this will encourage more people to vote and increase the chances of making this work.
I have a vintage Pelikan 140 with OBB nib, an M215 Lozenge fitted with an M400 OM nib, a '90s model M250 with M nib, and a 90s model M200 with OB nib. I've wanted a modern M400/M405 with an extra fine or fine nib for quite some time now, and I think the blue looks sharp with the black and silver!
