The Sony SSCS5 3 way passive speakers - often available for less than $125 - paired with one of those nifty little SS Chinese bluetooth amps makes much more sense to me, both in terms of sound quality and flexibility. For example, the $110 snazzy lil' Douk Audio ST-01 PRO hybrid amp with its illuminated analog VU meter and adorable mini tubes that glow a warm yellow-red...
SklobiActually, micro USB as a connector for audio is excellent, and takes advantage of the DAC in the speakers. It's not being used as a charger or anything like that.
Well Bluetooth is known for a slight delay between origin and reception, but I'm sure the issue is more of a factor in certain applications.
As for DJ-ing…
I'm the last guy who'd know ;- )
You don’t produce music over Bluetooth man… it never matches. They can get close but these are ancient! MICRO USB?!?! The Bluetooth version isn’t gonna be the newest. Remember, it’s not a Bluetooth controller to a device, where the lag is minimal, your trying to connect to speakers. With a DAC. The audio has to be processed. So connecting to your phone from Bluetooth controller, the input will be quick.
If you are looking into these, I recommend reading my comments below. I convinced another user to try Vanatoo, and I think he was blown away. These are really bad, it’s the only reason I go out of my way to comment on these. Even my wife who can care less about audio thought AE didn’t sound good. These are easily one of the most disappointing audio purchases I’ve ever made.
I've had a pair of these for 5-6 years, they're mindblowingly good for their size, you can also get an incredible amount of clear bass out of them even without a dedicated subwoofer. They're just that good.
In a nod toward their customer service, when I moved the power adapter died in transit and I asked how to order a new one and they just sent me one for free.
jfox8Sure there are plenty of better sounding speakers out there but for the size, price and flexibility in input all in a small package it is hard to beat. If constraints such as size (sometimes we just don't have or don't want to have much larger speakers placed) and money was not as big of a deal then plenty of options abound. As how I use it which is a small set of bluetooth speakers for my pc desktop and macbook to hook up to it works like a treat. I def looked into the vanatoo zero but size and budget was a big factor (money saved goes towards a decent sub).
Own a pair of the non+ model, refurb off AE's site, with a cheap Monoprice flatboi sub. Have em going through a FiiO K5 Pro. My only references are the 6XX and T3 through the same DAC. These are definitely fun to listen to, but obviously don't compare when it comes to accuracy and whatever. The only reason I got these was because they look nice, and actually fit on the tiny standing desk in my tiny room. The built-in DAC is only used with a Nintendo switch through USB.
Volume knob on the back is annoying. At least I get a little bit of adjustment with my DAC.
I have owned several Audioengine speakers and can tell you that they are a great value. It is unrealistic to expect audiophile quality for this price. However, these are an incredible value and sound huge for their size and price. They are extremely capable for your money and they don't require you to use much space or cash to get good sound.
The A2+s are distinctly mid-fi. There is a HUGE upper bass EQ bump that is non-defeatable. http://noaudiophile.com/AudioEngine_A2_Plus/. You can't get them to integrate well with a sub well because of it. The rest of the spectrum is good, not great. I have had many computer speakers and most were better than these. Many of the popular, inexpensive, 4 to 5" powered studio monitors sold at musicians sites are better. IMHO buyers fall in love with the size and finish, don't listen objectively.
I’m new to Drop, so I’m a bit confused. What’s the advantage of getting these through Drop rather than via Audioengine directly for the same price? (I should point out that I actually own these. I consider the sound to be so-so. Someone below mentioned “muddy” and I agree)
RedboneNone other than 30+ day delayed gratification. I have the older A2 model and they are great desktop speakers. I'd like to get the plus model at some point, but I can wait for an actual deal.
