How does this compare to the TEAC AI-101DA ? I've been looking for something that can play from my computer and drive both headphones and bookshelf speakers.

I haven't tried the AE N22, but if neither of these (the AE or the TEAC) work out for you, you could consider the Fiio K5 dock. It has a headphone out on the front, RCA out (and in) on the rear, and three gain settings.
I use mine for headphones only, and it's great, especially with that big, smooth volume dial on the front. I don't use a player in the dock; just pass audio through it from my MacBook and an external DAC.
It will comfortably drive headphones from 16-300 Ohms, and I was happy with it on the mid gain setting with my HD 6XX. Just note that, despite it's description on some product websites, it's not a DAC. Amp only.
Hope this helps.

I'm actually looking for a unit that can power my bookshelf speakers via straight speaker wire (or speaker wire with banana plug) plus has a port on the front for headphones.
I see a lot of small units on here with a headphone jack on the front of the unit and outputs on the back, but they are usually RCA outputs, like the NuForce uDAC-3 DAC/Amp Combo that was just recently submitted to Massdrop. How do you hook up bookshelf speakers if the unit only has RCA cables? Do you need another amp as middle-man?

Ah, my bad. The K5 probably isn't what you're looking for. This would be better for powered bookshelf speakers.
