I bought some of these from the original Kickstarter. I liked them so much, I bought more from MD. As others have said, these are not for heavy load bearing applications, but for light keychain / EDC use, they are perfectly fine. I have had no issues with any "fatigue" in the spring action. I trust these to hang my keys off clothing and packs.
I've got just about every model of the Handgrey carabiners and even the ones over five years of constant use still have their bottle opener, accurate close, spring and load capability. There are many attempts to reverse engineer these wire cut little masterpieces, but they result in either too tight a spring or sloppy tolerances that could have you losing your keys, pills, whatever. I hope the Ti split ring we got on the H1 drop is included on this one. If not, Massdrop please list as an option!
Really well made and the different designs they have come up with so far are all really nice looking, but they're much smaller than I expected. Definitely keep that in mind if you're planning to pick one up. Fortunately, the smaller size was not an issue, and in fact was a welcome surprise for me since I only use it to hook my keys to my belt loop. The smaller size makes it much more discrete and comfortable to wear in this case.
The only real qualm I have is that due to the way it's designed, it can be a bit tricky to unhook it from your belt loop, which as a result makes it easy to pinch your finger in the process. These aren't super hard pinches that leave marks or blood blisters, but they still hurt. The part causing these pinches is the bottle opener area (for me at least). I'd be interested to see if Handgrey could come up with a new design that foregoes the bottle opener functionality and makes a pinch-free mechanism instead. I personally don't think every EDC item needs to be able to crack open a cold one.
After using it for a while, I have gotten better at hooking and unhooking it from my belt loop without too much struggling (or pinching). All in all, I think it's a nice little carabiner, though it might be a bit too pricey for its size. That being said, it's very unique and the machining is immaculate. So I suppose you get what you pay for in that regard. In terms of practicality however, you could probably do a lot better for much less money.
NubblecakesI personally don’t think ANY EDC item needs to be able to crack open a cold one, when almost any metal, wood, rock, or hard plastic object can be used to pop a bottle cap... Seat belts, butter knives, and picnic tables for example.
This thing has been used daily for the last six years or so, and frankly I've jammed way too many things on it (my pockets don't like me). I have a bunch of medication I put in aluminum containers on keyrings, and I also have my actual keys... no problems at all. My only real issue is I get it stuck on the edge of my jeans pocket sometimes, in other words, it's gripping too well. Well worth the price.
It's too small for what it is. Not a convenient key holder for belt loops. There hasn't been a time either putting keys on or taking them off that I haven't been aggressively pinched to hell. It's ok, but that's about it.
This is a lot smaller than I imagined it but it's extremely light and sturdy. Good for latching a few keys or more if they are on a chain that's attached to this. I would like to see more sizes made available.
I've been using this to keep my keys attaches to my belt loop for 6 years. Great product. Durable and light. Even the bottle opener works better than expected.
A great carabiner for carrying keys; just not too many. I have a seperate set of keys for work and this is perfect for holding onto them; however, it is not large enough to hold both the work set, as well as the personal set. While I did not want a huge carabiner for holding my keys, I found that this would have been better, and received five stars, if it was a little larger.
I really like the design, and find that it makes it easy to place and remove carabiner from the belt loop with one hand.
I have not had any quality issues after more than 3,000 hours of being at work with me.
