Finally I received my 4th EM5813. I bought from US$ 249 (1st pair) to US$ 99 (4th) I am not sure whether it is sample variance, or later batch is better tuned, the 4th EM5813 performs the best. The first two EM5813, sounded very muddy, treble were absent, even after run-in for says 50 hours. The first three EM5813 were in different packing (2 from Audio Advisor & 1 from another seller), the cable need to be banded in 90 degree which hurt the cable a bit and also all three gold 3.5 connectors were oxidized. While the 4th does not have these problems. Reviewing the 4th EM5813, I realized the sound tuning should be done with double flange tips. If using that tips, treble is normal. However, once you used other tips, even spinfit, the treble is weak and resulted in dark sounding. Personally I understand why people said EM5813 sound like shit, as IEM fitting affects the sound performance a lot. If heavy cable + heavy housing + double flange tips not fitting your ear canal, EM5813 will behave very bad. Going back to the real performance when you have the right setting: Although treble is weak, the overall sound is: 1) dynamic 2) full bodied bass 3) non-fatigue 4) attractive mid-performance In fact, it is not bad, and its original pricing is reasonable. However, some weaknesses in design (not regarding sound perfomance) become a deal breaker. Cardas can do something great in a reasonable price! However, it is a pity Cardas is not launching any new IEM after A8 anniversary version. In the end, US$99 is a steal! A must buy in your IEM collections!
