Product Description
You love everything about your keyboard and mechanical switches, except for the overbearing click-clack from the keycaps hitting the bottom. To reduce the noise output from your typing and add in a touch of ergonomic optimization, slide some Cherry MX Rubber O-Rings onto your mechanical keyboard Read More
Not a mechanical keyboard person I take it? Ten seconds with google would have stopped you from making a rather stupid post.
The o-ring stops the key from bottoming out which produces the clicking sound you hear so it's mostly for sound absorption but it also has the added benefit of shortening the stroke as well which helps the more ham-fisted typists with finger fatigue.
Brad.ClarkstonBut for what I use my keyboard for, which is gaming and mild typing, the bands disrupt that. I have cherry mx reds, which have a fast and slightly audible clack. The rubber bands make it slower to press, and add a tactile bump at the end of a key press. I'm not a fan of that. I'll take loud typing over reduced quality of gameplay any day
Is this some kind of a sick joke? O-rings can be found on eBay for $1-3, including free shipping. And you have the audacity to say the MSRP is $18? Where do you get them from? Apple?
And please don't give me the "but these are genuine" garbage. It's just a small, round piece of rubber. A knock-off of of an O-ring. That's the stupidest thing I've read this month.
I added O-rings to my Topre switches, but didn't like the reduction in key travel. O-rings on Cherry MX keys similarly reduce travel? What is the consensus on O-rings in general? Reduction in comfort/accuracy for comfort/quietness?
AlexPkIt isn't just the O-rings, it is the fact I like having Massdrop send me an email about awesome mechanical keyboard drops every day except when they drop stupid shit like this you can buy for cents at a hardware store. Starting to wonder if I should put massdrop in my spam folder
These Cherry MX Rubber O-Rings in clear DO NOT FIT my Varmillo VA87MR with Gateron Reds..
They are too thick and do not allow many of the keys to depress enough ! :( Boooo
IdontknoSome of the ebay $2 o-rings tend to not last nearly as long as the o-rings made by Cherry MX or Max. The cheap rubber used in the eBay o-rings seems to want to dry rot and/or crack fairly quickly compared to the quality Cherry MX and Max offerings. Just remember, you're mileage may and will vary.. This is just my experience with the 'cheap' ebay o-rings.
AntykainBuying o-rings off ebay might (or might not) be hit or miss, but they are definitely not as bad as you're suggesting. Additionally, you can buy 3 or more sets for the price of one here.
The only suggestions as to the quality of these o-rings are: "Industrial grade rubber
Thickness: 1.4 mm" no exact material composition, no durometer hardness, no manufacturer name, nothing, this is as much a shot in the dark as any o-ring you'd buy online.
kleung347*Sigh* becouse this is Massdrop (as in *Group Buys*) not amazon. If you want a cheap commercial product buy it from them (which I would for this drop - it should not have been created).
The problem with MD currently is to many people do not understand the concept behind the site and bogs the sytem down in cheap commercial products that takes a month to ship ... then they blame the system they created.
