This stuff actually makes a huge difference. On turbo cars, heat energy is one of the key ingredients in spinning a turbine. More heat, the faster it spins up, the less lag and transient response. That being said, you really can't measure the difference between a wrapped and unwrapped manifold, but it is there. Plus, it keeps the heat from getting into your engine bay, reducing ambient engine bay temps and subsequently intake charge temps.
