Open up our compact ALT keyboard, and you’ll find its PCBA: the assembled printed control board, and the party responsible for many of the ALT’s crucial functions. It’s among the best in its class—and now, it’s available to buy as a standalone component Read More
This item doesn't look to be a normal stock piece at this point. If you go on the listing and request it you are more likely to see a restock as well as communication when the product is available.
DallyI’ve been on the request list for months, not a single comms or indication of when this might be available.
What would be useful is to hear whether or not there is ever likely to be a restock or not. Not even asking about WHEN just IF. That way, I can potentially forget my idea of building a space race and move on to something else entirely.
Is that too much to ask?
kryten68I agree completely! It may be worth trying to reach out to their CS line and see if they can give you any answer. This if of course assuming you haven't done so already.
I think partial problems in the PCB's may be that they are constantly selling out of stock of the board kits and barebones that require these before they can be sold individually. So that may play a role in how they are ordering as I'm sure the PCB's while cheaper are harder and longer to manufacturer than the solid aluminum cases.
Do you already have an ALT or just trying to use the PCB in another project?
DallyHi @Dally
Thanks for your insights. I already have an Alt (space grey high profile, Durock V2's, Holy Pandas and MT3 TTY's). It's amazing. I also have a stack of Holy Pandas, another set of V2's and the Susuwatari keycaps. All I need is the Bronze case, which is in stock, and a PCB. With those two pieces I can assemble a Space Race Alt which is the keyboard I have been fixating on since I first laid eyes on it.
I don't want to lose the use of my existing Alt, in fact I want to use that as my work daily driver. I want the Space Race for my personal projects workspace.
At this stage the only options seem to be:
Wait until both Bronze case and PCB are in stock. Might never happen.
Buy the Bronze case as its in stock and maybe never get the PCB but I would have the option to use my existing PCB.
Buy a whole new Alt and the Bronze case just to get a PCB.
Find and take a chance on a second hand Alt just to get the PCB.
Don't suppose anyone has an Alt PCB they would sell me?
kryten68I couldn't wait any more - I just bought an ALT lo-pro and the Bronze case on sale. Was agonizing over just repairing a used/broken PCBA - before I pulled the trigger. (Most pcb repairs are simple - just glue the socket back on, and solder a jumper to the next socket in the column, or the diode.)
Historically we continued selling cases to allow existing owners to change the color of their keyboard case, we now have standalone PCBs available again.
