Open up our compact ALT keyboard, and you’ll find its PCBA: the assembled printed control board, and the party responsible for many of the ALT’s crucial functions. It’s among the best in its class—and now, it’s available to buy as a standalone component Read More
Hi everyone,
Thanks for reaching out and voicing your concerns about the pricing of the PCBs. The original intent was to make these available at a lower price but upon importing them we learned that PCBs (considered components) have a 25% import tariff on them (that finished goods are not subject to).
Bottom line, it's far more expensive for us to produce and import a PCB, Aluminum Case and Stabs separately, than it is for us to import a barebones assembled keyboard (even though they're effectively the same thing).
At the end of the day, that isn't your problem, it's ours. We've repriced the PCB to be more in-line with market values and now if you buy a PCB, Case and Stabs the pricing is similar to our barebones offering (slightly higher given the stabs are different and the case colors are customizable and made in much smaller batches).
Thanks for your feedback!
(For those who placed an order at the original, higher price, a customer service rep will reach out and provide a refund of the price difference.)
Hey Kevin, I was very critical of the original pricing and despite thinking that it's still a little pricey, I really appreciate Drop listening to its customers. I need to give credit where credit is due. You'll have my order shortly.
Looks like ordering these complete and seperating them upon arrival might be the way to go. Thank you for the price drop!
Is an upgraded PCB still going to happen you think?
Does anyone know if Drop plans to change out the pcb in order to support 5pin switches. I really don't like having to remove the pins off my switches and with how it is now i dont like recommending it to people who want to experiment with switches.
Does anyone know if this could be used for a replacement PCB for a Whitefox (w/ Truefox layout)? The physical layout seems to match with some minor reprogramming of the backspace. Only think that I think may not work is the geometry of the USB-C connectors and /or case mounting locations on the PCB.
i've been looking far and wide for a top and bottom PCB, without having to consider gutting my drop alt 😆
does anyone know if we can remove one of the usb c (on the right side), or if it will get in the way of using a case different than the drop keyboards? i was thinking tofu 60 but idk if it would fit with this pcb.
Hey friends at Drop.
First of all, wanted to say the step up lately in communication has been awesome. Especially explaining about the logistics and economical hurdles of getting goods like these to people.
But, as tons of others have said, and who knows, maybe you’ve got it in the works, but if you guys were to release PCBs with south facing LEDs and PCB mount switch support, I, as well as MANY others I’m sure, would buy one instantly. The current PCBs are perfectly fine for people just getting into the hobby, but eventually a lot of people come to realize the issue with north facing LEDs and Cherry profile.
I love my Laser Alt, but I just don’t really use it anymore because Cherry is my favorite profile. It’s just a shame having that limitation on an otherwise awesome board.
Anyway, keep up the good work, and thanks for powering through this crazy year.
