Drop + Sennheiser PC38X: More Detail, More Comfort, More Style
search
The PC37X gaming headset has been one of our most successful products over the years—but we couldn’t rest on our laurels any longer. Our latest collaboration with Sennheiser is the next evolution in the PC37X line: the PC38X.  To create the PC38X, we took what everyone loved most about the original headset and improved it even further. First, we incorporated a completely new driver capsule, taken from Sennheiser’s latest GSP series, and tuned it for improved dynamics and clarity. With this new tuning, expect more impactful explosions, punchier low-end performance, and a better overall music-listening experience. For comfort, we redesigned the headband padding with a split-notch design and breathable fabric for less heat retention. The earcups now use a metal mesh for a more open design, and they’re styled with yellow accents for a tasteful pop of color. What’s more, where the PC37X only included a 10-foot split-end cable aimed at PC gamers, the PC38X includes two cables: one for PC gaming and a shorter TRRS cable for use with headphone jacks and console controllers (without an adapter). We’ll also be including two sets of earpads. The default pads use the new breathable fabric, while the swappable pads come with the classic velour finish found on the original PC37X. Whether you’re listening to tunes or gaming on your PC, console, or phone, the PC38X offers a huge step up in performance and comfort. As an added bonus, we’ll be giving the first 1,000 purchasers a free GSA headphone hanger to keep your headset within reach at all times. Make sure to hit request on the product page and stay tuned for our upcoming launch!

The headband itself seems pretty stiff, but the stock pads help to alleviate the clamp. Just clamp them over the box they came in for a few nights

Really confused with this product. Once you get past the terrible accent color choice, you have a less "gamery" designed headset then a standard GSP 500 at a slightly higher price? If the rumored $170 price sticks and based on current prices of GSP 500s on amazon of course. Sure you do receive an extra pair of earpads at least but is it worth it? Especially with Sennheiser's newly announced soon to be released HD 560s this will be a tough sell overall for gaming.

After buying these, can confirm. Much more muted unless you are shining a light on it just like every reviewer in B Roll was.

Thanks for this view. Much more subtle and I think I'll like a lot better than some of the contrast-y photos I've seen.

Just want to point out that when you're plugging the cable in the headset, you need to give it a really strong push. When you first insert it, it may feel like it's in, but that's just the first (of 3) contacts that have made contact and engaged. Give it a really strong push, you won't break it! We've received multiple returned "faulty, dead on arrival" units and upon testing them, they all work fine once the cable is properly seated. There are numerous reviews/discussion posts below of people complaining about "very quiet audio, left channel doesn't work at all", etc. These are almost always solved with firmly inserting the cable. Regardless, if you're not happy with the product or believe yours is defective, please contact customer support and they'll gladly refund or exchange it for you.

KevinMy dog chewed my cable and boom mic. Where do I get the cable? And if the boom mic is replaceable, that?
0x6A7232I don’t think the boom mic is repairable without sending it in to EPOS, but you probably can order replacement cables from EPOS or buy it from their customer support department. The cables are interchangeable between the PC37X, PC38X, GAME ONE, G4ME ZERO, and I think the GSP series as well.

Please make other color options, the yellow is kind of gross.

PublicNuisanceI know that color should be the least important part of headphones, but I find these really ugly, and it's hard to stomach paying $170+ for something ugly. It looks more olive green than mustard yellow in more natural lighting, but that's hardly better. I just don't understand why they went with this color over something neutral like black, grey, or even white.

TimobkgThey have all black versions now though. https://drop.com/buy/drop-epos-pc38x-gaming-headset This one! Epos is Sennheiser's gaming brand, so it's the same thing just re-brand. Otherwise it's identical to this except color.

Product/Shipment Updates:

10/14 Update: Hi Everyone, We've received a shipment of PC38X from Sennheiser as expected but unfortunately they sent us far fewer units than what we had ordered. We're in the process of getting this problem sorted out and getting a new delivery scheduled with them. For now we've updated our estimated ship date to 10/23. The 280 units of PC38X that we have on hand will be shipped out in the next few days. Given the extreme popularity of the product, the 280 units realistically covers residual orders from the 10/6 launch date and a handful of orders placed on 10/7. All other orders will be shipped once the remainder of our order arrives. We apologize for the delay and appreciate your patience. As of writing, the delayed shipment will be large enough to cover all pending pre-orders, plus new orders. 10/21 Update: Received confirmation from Sennheiser that 1151 units are scheduled to arrive at our warehouse tomorrow. Depending on when they arrive at the warehouse, they'll need to be unpacked, counted, and then prepared to ship out to all users. As much as we'd love to ship them on Friday 10/23, realistically they'll probably ship out first thing next week. These 1151 units will cover all orders placed up until October 18th. Orders placed on October 19th or later, will need to wait for the following shipment. Sennheiser has assured us that 2000 MORE units will be dispatched from their warehouse by 10/22. That means those units should arrive at our warehouse and be ready to ship by mid/end of next week. That batch of 2000 will cover orders placed on/after 10/19 (as of writing, about 200 of those 2000 have been presold, so 1800 left to go). As always, thanks for your patience as we work through this with Sennheiser and get these units into your hands as quickly as we can. 10/23 Update: Units started shipping today, and we expect to get many/most of them done over the weekend. We also have confirmation of the other shipment, so we're expecting all outstanding shipments being out by the end of Oct 30th (ish). 10/24 Update: Over 800 headphones shipped out today, with the remaining 300ish that will probably ship on Sunday. Sennheiser has confirmed we should expect the 2000 more headphones by Wednesday at the latest. New orders will all be out of that shipment, and those units should ship by Friday 10/30 (ish!). 10/26 Update: 98% of the orders from before Oct 18th have shipped, the remaining should be done shortly. We're waiting on the next shipment from Sennheiser expected in the next couple days. Last week, 900 more GSA headphone hangers arrived at our warehouse due to a shipping error at Sennheiser, so we've added those to the free-giveaways (now 1900 total, instead of 1000). Add the hanger to your cart and use the discount code "LEVELUP" to claim your free hanger. 10/27 Update: Update from Sennheiser is 2000 units are expected to arrive on Wednesday. We should start shipping these out on Friday and throughout the weekend. If you have questions about international shipping times, have a look at this article we just posted. 10/27 Update: Hi everyone,  Wanted to give you all a heads up that we’re now expecting the next batch of PC38Xs to arrive at our warehouse on Friday, which means we'll begin shipping by early/mid next week. If you decide you’d prefer not to wait the additional time, this run is open for cancellations via your Transactions page (drop.com/transactions).  10/30 Update: Shipment arrived at our warehouse today. It'll be counted/shelved on Saturday or Monday, and then start shipping Monday or Tuesday. All orders should be out by Wednesday or Thursday. More updates to be posted once we get tracking from Sennheiser.

lol yeah I do imagine it probably do look better in person. But in general yellow is a hard sell colour. I feel like drop will lose a lot of sales over this if they don't change colour.

I don't enjoy sounding so vain but I just cant get over the yellow... I know its not that bad. It sounds like the perfect headset and if it had black or grey accents I probably wouldn't think twice about getting it. But I am now and its really just because of the color...

Lol I guess I was thinking it really depends on the intention. Not to bash people who like yellow on headset. If Drop's is like we gonna make a headset appeal to people who like yellow, I'll be like all the powers to you. Go for it! But if Drop is like we want to sell as many of this as humanly possible then it's definitely the wrong move. It's like pink cars, there are people out there who buy pink cars. But I'd imagine silver/white/black cars would be more popular. Also "when you're driving and you can't see the car's exterior color" probably isn't a very good argument. Let's just wait for people to come up with their own modding guide on how to make it un-yellow LOL.

Quote from the new review concerns me. "There is a bit of a problem though, the PC 38X cost $170 on Drop which puts it right in the firing line of the Drop HD 58X" $170?? I was hoping this would replace the PC 37X instead..

Ahhh sounds like it could be a manufacturing error, but like you said at this point no one would know how widespread this issue is. I suspect this might be more widespread than we think, but there is no way to know for sure. Although I'm glad to hear your colleagues were able help you out though! :D Now you can enjoy HD58X at its fullest potential haha.

HydeExactly! I was both shocked and happy when I learnt of that. Really grateful to them for doing it for me <3 I think it may be more widespread than it seems as you said- I probably would never have realised there was a problem had I not brought it for my colleagues to listen (it honestly didn't sound terrible even when out of phase)

You need to offer different color options, the yellow is disgusting. Everyone loved the all black on the PC37X. All black or black and gray always make people happy. This was a poor decision.
