The mech keys community is fascinated with retro designs, and there may be no one more infatuated with them than Matt3o. Just take our latest collab with the man behind MT3 profile as proof. Inspired by the early ‘70s IBM 3277 keyboard (which came with the iconic IBM 3270 terminal), our 3277 custom keycap set revives a classic gray and black colorway for modern layouts. And while we love a no-nonsense blend of black and gray, we worked with Matt3o to take this nostalgic set to new heights. For those who appreciate a pop of color, we’re offering a host of accent kits, including Antique Rose, Turquoise, Magenta, Acid Yellow, and Tangerine. Sculpted in MT3 profile, 3277 has everything you love about a classic set of caps—optimized for today’s desktop setups.
MT3 profile feels like nothing you’ve ever typed on before. To understand its appeal, you have to understand its history. Many old computer terminals were constructed with a slanted switch layout from front to back. Because of that slant, the keycaps sat at an angle atop the switches. MT3 profile is a reimagination of that unique slanted build, but optimized for modern keyboards. Based on iconic IBM beamspring terminals of the 1970s, it’s sculpted with a prominent curve that extends across each row. On top of that, MT3 features scooped keys to help orient your fingers on the keyboard. Thanks to some significant design work from Matt3o, 3D modeling, and a whole lot of elbow grease, we're proud to continue to bring this innovative profile to life.
