are the keycaps shipped in plastic bag inside a box or just a plastic bag with no protection

In a plastic bag. Signature Plastics doesn't have the capability to ship in boxes.

disguyThey don't, they take them as Signature Plastics ships them. SP is a tiny company working out of a garage in the boonies, on the Canadian border. They only have a few people there, and their main business is producing cash register caps. They bought the old Comptec molds from the 70s and make new hobbyist caps like these with them, but since that's just a tiny fraction of their business, they've never invested in upgrading the experience.
The one time Drop tried to force them (with SA Godspeed), it led to a delay of almost a year just to box them. They've said they won't do it again.

Does the ergo kit include unmarked keys? Or would the space bars kit work for an ergo dox layout's thumb cluster and corner keys?

The ergo kit has keys with nonsensical legends, that can go anywhere. (See picture 19)
