Almost went for it until it hit me, just like with the 'eye' artisan, the orientation should be vertical, not horizontal. Looking at that would annoy me every day.
sadiqThe Storm Trooper keyboard while being just a plain boring white keyboard with black keys has the benefit of some attention to detail in its implementation. While this keyboard looks amazing, and is surprisingly anodized aluminum, it also has soldered switches that are not pre-lubed. The HPX switch NEEDS to be lubed or the typing experience will suffer as they are very scratchy out of the box. The backlight is a white led, not RGB, which does not integrate as well with this dark build and opaque keycaps.
Just to bring to light the value of hand lubed switches, it takes me around a week to hand lube my 75% Akko Mod007v2 whenever I decide to update switches. That is working in the evening after I get off of work.
Good looking entry level keyboard at a good price. The listing is unclear as to which kind of PCB comes installed (hot swap or soldered), but I think its still a decent buy in either case.
whoatacosIt would be a decent buy if they used the Holy Panda Drop switches instead of the Holy Panda X switch. While the HPDrop would still benefit from being lubed, it feels smooth out of the box. The HPX feels scratchy if not lubed and would need to be de-soldered to make that happen. For this price point you could get some really amazing keyboards with hot-swap being standard. There is no reason for no hot-swap when you pay this much for a keyboard today.
dclay1983The HPX is much better after some break in. Really smooths out and gets a bit more slippery. I don't have the original HP switches, so I can't do a direct comparison but compared to lubed and filmed Halo Clears, the HPX definitely measures up; even unmodified. The Halo Clears have a lot less of a tactile top end with easier actuation so maybe part of what I notice is due to the differences in switch specs. That said, switches are very subjective and I'm not trying to discount your opinion, but my experience with the HPX differs. Both HP and HPX are great places to start.
