I like the picture on the internet looks great! Would be extremely happy if the keycaps I spent 120 dollars on were actually what I got. All I got was a single key cap that wasn’t even on my order.
Excellent quality MT3 keycaps. The shape of this profile (rounded and retro-looking) goes well with the soft Elvish theme. The keycaps' cream / green colors look warmer in-person than online. This would be a 5/5 product... EXCEPT:
Drop did not do their research. None of the Elvish characters match their English keyboard equivalents. I know that a 1:1 transliteration is not possible, due to certain Elvish characters representing sounds not found in the English alphabet, but they could have at least tried. I'm not fluent in Tengwar, but it still bothers me. I showed my keyboard to my cousin and she immediately noticed this.
I imagine Corsair / Drop spent a good fortune on licensing LotR IP. Wish they would have spent a few hours on Lord of the Rings forums (or just hired a nerd for a day) to make the characters on the keys match their English equivalent. Great idea, poorly executed. Feels like a cash grab - like all
volkishDevI hate to be the “um actually” person, but they did that on purpose to match Daniel Smith’s Tengwar font. Matt3o has some blog posts explaining how they decided to place everything and what research he did. Whether that’s a good enough reason or not is of course up to you.
I didn’t expect to adore these as much as I did. They look even better in person to me. MT3 is a pretty tall profile and I was worried it’d be uncomfortable at first, but so far typing feels better than with my old cherry caps.
There is so much this set can do. The amount of research and care that was put into this set puts this in a whole new category for me. There are keycaps and then there are works of art.
These keycaps have a bit more of a texture to them which is still comfortable. The legends are sharp and not fuzzy, all is clear.
They have made many kits available to fit your needs so whether you are a hardcore Elvish nerd or require training, these keycaps are a conversation piece that takes their place among the finest.
