Functionally speaking, there is no reason at all for keyboard manufacturers to switch to USB-C; it is simply a matter of financial opportunism as USB-C becomes increasingly ubiquitous. I find it pretty annoying that anyone would use USB-C (a notoriously abused and poorly-enforced standard) for a cable but wouldn't make it at least USB 3.0 compliant--if for no reason other than to provide convenience/compatibility/utility to the consumer. It seems that there is little incentive to provide value here.
tl;dr God help you if you plan to use this for anything OTHER than a keyboard.
DeathbedNo worries, I read the comments to learn new stuff. A lot of people still argue about the degree to which heat/fast-charging hurts lithium-ion batteries--most people know from their smartphones that Li-ion batteries often get worse over time, but it's starting to look like USB-C fast-charging might be making the problem worse due to the amount of heat that ~3A charging generates. Throw a protective case into the mix & you've basically got a Lithium-ion filled hot pocket. Phones are supposed to have thermal regulators to counteract this, but I have a Pixel 2 and it's pretty obvious that the battery has gotten worse with time.
I can get a 5A cable for half of this? I can get a 5Gbps/60W cable for the same price... I can get a 10Gbps/100W cable for a few bucks more...
The price premium must be, so you can plug your clipped 'D' into a 'C'...
