Looks like a good amp on a budget, if you are more into DYI and want to spend a bit more, check out the Bottlehead Crack and Speedball, it's got wonderful sound for the money.

tim273Bottlehead with Speedball sounds pretty decent, but it is way overpriced especially for DIY. Bottlehead as a company has a lot of A holes working for them with bad attitudes on their forums and they do some major price gouging both by them and their friends who are their business partners for some parts.

PaulngI've already upgraded mine with stepped resistor volume using Vishay metal foil resistors, mundorf output caps, schottky diodes for rectifier to remove switching noise, filtered the power supply more with inductors instead of resistors, and upgraded to PS Vane tubes as well as rolled others. Believe me, I know how it is capable of sounding for an OTL in its base form and basically the highest end one you can build. I even started a custom build of creating 2x Crack's with the upgrades to create a balanced amp version. Never finished it because the performance just didnt justify the price and time and I ended up tossing the Crack in the trash last month because I simply wasnt ever going to use it again. Even in stock form the Crack is still significantly over priced, and only gets more so as you do upgrades. Is the Crack likely to be nicer sounding than this Drop OTL? Sure, it is likely. But it still isn't some holy grail and is still over priced. Honestly this Drop OTL will be too overpriced as well when it goes up to that $400 mark it is supposed to after the initial run. And at that point people should get the Crack instead since it would be the same price.
