Soo heres a story. I order on Massdrop in the most recent one, January something or other. Guy across from me at work is like, yeah, those are cool. Maybe I'll get one. A week later he orders all his parts. As of today, he has all of his parts to build one.
I don't even have a ship date.
So on one hand, thats a bit messed up, and a bit embarrassing to me. From my perspective, I should have just sourced them myself. I tried to be lazy and just pay massdrop, and now I'm paying for it. And he only payed about 30$ more than me, though we have access to 20$ acrylic and a laser cutter so thats cheating a bit.
On the other hand, I'd like to remind everyone why this happens. When they say "ship from the manufacturer" you realize that mostly means china, and an actual ship. Consumers prize low cost over all else, over speed or quality or dedication to customers. And I did this too. Its sorta exactly what we deserve. Its not even something we can fix, we can't suddenly change consumer buying practices to encourage these businesses in the US. Just something to think about.
