Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?
Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

It all depends on what type of sound and music you listen to and like.
I was in the same boat. TH-x00 Purpleheart vs He-400i vs Audeze LCD2C. I'm pulling the trigger on TH-X00 since I am not too analytical with my music and I like warm fun sounding headphones which makes me smile when I put some Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B, DnB, Dubstep, House, Rock. These headphones should fit my preferences when it comes to sound and the music I listen to. These are also semi-open headphones by the way. If you like the Beyerdynamic sound, you should enjoy these. If you are more into the AKG 7-series or Sennheiser HD6-series you probably like the He-400i.
Either way, both are great headphones but if you decide on the HE-4xx you should consider a DAC/AMP combo or DAP to get the full use of them despite low impedence, they are planar magnetics.
The modded TH-X00PH is as clear sounding as my HD700 with not quite as much detail, but about the same instrument separation. Bass is absolutely beautiful too, massive extension in the sub-bass with VERY good precision and detail, and the huge impact. The stock PH is duller and less dynamic, with slightly more recessed and harder to understand vocals, and a more conjested sound.
This track will show you how good the TH-X00PH does acoustic bass, vocals, and highs, especially when modded: And for electronic, this is a good one:

I was going to get the schiit stack to drive whatever headphones I got, but now that I see it's in ONLY silver, I got turned off. The Jotunheim seems to be my cheapest entry point in black for $500. The Element looks like the best design though for $350 for me personally since it blends in with my setup. The O2/Dac looks like the best value.
I heard some meh things about the 2 JDS Labs options which made me want to just spend more for the Jotunheim just to have a black appliance. Any comments on the JDSLabs options as I really do like the way The Element looks, but it is an amplifier/dac.... I can spend $150 extra if I need to for the Jotunheim in black.
I'm considering passing on the Fostex and saving up a bit more for the Mr Speaker AEON's. I watched/read a few reviews about them here: https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/innerfidelitys-wall-fame-over-ear-sealed
Do keep us posted on what you buy and your thoughts on them!
The MrSpeakers Aeon is an extremely comfortable headphone, right in line with the HD700. Hard to get any more comfortable than those 2 headphones.
Soundwise, they are both pretty much different than a TH-X00PH, much more focused on the mids and highs, but also with detailed bass. The TH-X00PH is focused on the bass, but also with nicely detailed mids and highs. Now the Aeon was brand new out of the box, and throughout the afternoon it was getting better, but initially it is a very mid and highs focused can with bass is noticeably lacking - a stock SHP9500 had more low end emphasis. Very good detail and clarity, just wasn't an exciting can to listen to, kind of clinical sounding. Again, this was a brand new in box unit opened at a headphone meet with a setup I can't remember. I also tried it with my tablet and Dragonfly Red, doesn't pair well at all with a DFR...very anemic sounding. So that's my only experience with the Aeon. I hear they do come around well with runtime and proper DAC/amp combo for it.
The HD800 sounded precise, with definitely LOTS of detail, and a smooth sound, but again clinical sounding profile and not for me. I know the HD800S is tuned differently. I believe the earpads are the same on both - rediculously huge pads, so large they actually rest on your jaw. So seal can be an issue - don't move your jaw at all when listening! I prefer the HD700 to the HD800, both for sound and comfort reasons.
But I do honestly prefer my modded TH-X00PH to all three... none of them have the low end of the PH or the precise energy it gives in the mids and highs. EQ'ing an HD700 really helps bring some life to it, but it still is not magical sounding like the PH. They are better in technicalities than a PH, but not better sounding when just trying to enjoy the music, instead of examining it piece by piece... The HD700 is most excellent at vocals, yet the vocals are more forward and just a little less detailed in my PHs... and the PH's have that fabulous low end and incredible enegetic highs at the same time.
If you are interested in the Aeon or HD800S, it would definitely be recommended to hear them on a system you would want to use them with.
