OstewartI joined the drop for the 8.35 so I will only know how it sound when I get it next month. I owned a pair of GMP400 and I think it sound more musical then my hifiman 400i. More importantly it is light and one of the most comfy headphones I have.

ghostieThey sing with a nice OTL tube amp :) and yes they are uber comfy.
The 8.35d on the other hand are a bit warmer, and a great all rounder.

HelpbotIt's not a problem as the stock cable is durable.
It is also to easy to modify them to take an SMC socket, but I ended up hardwiring mine again.

OstewartI just got my 8.35m. Hate to say this (to those Hifiman fans out there), it is a lot more musical than my Hifiman 4xx and 400i. Less analytical to my ears but certainly smoother and less fatigue. I can listen on and on for hours. Surprising i find the sounstage wide. Bass and mids are certainly the star features. It is also light but I do find the clamp force a bit tight. Need to relief the pressure every 30min or so. What it lacks in comfort, it makes up in durability. This cups are made like a tank.

HelpbotDon't get me wrong. I do like my Hifiman 4xx but it can sound a bit too flat at times. When I put on the 8.35D, the more pronounced mids reminded me how fuller music can be such an enjoyment.

HelpbotReally depends on what you need. GMP 400 did everything slightly better than 8.35, except in bass. I mean it is no slouch and you get more accurate bass presentation. But to my ear, there is a slight bump in mid bass for 8.35 which makes the music slightly more rounded. If you like a more accurate presentation then 400 would be a good buy. Being an open can also mean better soundstage.
To sum it all 400 is more comfy, sound more accurate than 8.35 but still able to retain that musicality to a large extent. Is it worth the upgrade? Yes only if you have spare cash. Otherwise 8.35 is all you need.

HelpbotI have both, the 8.35d are my office, throw about and abuse headphones. The GMP 400 are a reference point for me, along with sounding musical out of my tube amp. The 400's are extremly comfortable and are a nice alternative to my HE-500. They both serve different purposes to me, so I have both.

OstewartMy sentiments exact. In fact, I brought my GMP 400 and compared it with Senheiser's HD650, swapping in and out both headphones for more than 30mins, and to my ears the GMP 400 sounded better. That was the day I gave up on owning a pair of HD650.

ghostieI would say maybe a teeny bit more separation and body, but I mainly prefer the looks and build of my own cable, along with making it the right length for my system.

HelpbotThe 4XX are amazing headphones, but they're not the best for EDM and not good for gaming, they REALLY lack soundstage.

JJDeviloperagree. I have hifiman 4xx from Drop and while I like the warmth, the bass response and smooth high, it sacrifices details and soundstage. The GMP 400 has details and high but it might be too bright sounding to some. Female voices sound good but lack the weight behind. Bass is more neutral. The 8.35 on the other hand, with the brainwave sheepskin pads offer better bass response but the high took up a slight graininess. I will try the hybrid pads which I was told would have the same improved bass response as the sheepskins pads but staying neutral to the high.

Ringing in PC38X's

I recently got this headset, and wow is it good. My only issue is when certain people talk on discord, I can hear a really high pitched ringing. I fiddled with a bunch of settings, computer audio and discord, and nothing seems to solve the issue. It is primarily if not all in my right ear only. Is there something wrong with my headset, or was that ringing always there I can just hear it cause the headset is THAT good? I haven't had any issues with any other application, though I have yet to test if I can hear the ringing on a different version of discord, say on my xbox instead of my pc. Only other issue I've had is occasional static, but I can't tell if it's from the headset or the show/game/etc.

Sennheiser PC37X randomly goes bad after disconnecting the cable ?

Greetings, Yesterday I was using my headset like normal with my macbook, just listening to music and on a call with people like usual, and the headset was perfectly fine. The stock wire that came with the headset is extremely long and yesterday it annoyed me very much that it kept getting tangled with itself, so I decided to see if the cable is replaceable. I pulled out the cable from the headset and saw the adapter, and looked online for a replacement. Upon plugging it back in, the audio sounded extremely muffled and washed out. Im not sure what I did wrong to make it mess up like that as I've always taken good care of it, ive had it for about 2 years and its always just been chilling on my desk, but anywho I thought the cable just went bad and ordered a replacement. The replacement came, and the issue is still persistant, so I am not sure what the issue is I've tried multiple different headsets and the issue is not with the port, and I also tried it with my windows laptop and...

Recommendation for my next headphone set? I have Koss 95x

Hey all, What would you recommend I get next and why? I have Koss ESP-95x electrostatic massdrop headphones. These are my first and only audiophile set. I love them. I think my only real requirements is $500 or less for the headphones and that they have a little more low end. I don’t need thump but these are really light on lows…but the experience is still awesome. Also any recommendations on an amp? I only have my electrostatic thingy. I am using the Topping D50 DAC. thx!!
