2 years into the hobby and I had this custom keyboard for around 1 year.
Mods done
Tape Mod
Zealios v2 lubed
GMK blue Samurai
Durock V2 stablizers lubed with Krytox 205g (Could have done a better job installing it)
The initial build was pretty nice, I really liked feel of the board and it was heavy little thing.
1 star off (it could be my own user error though), because after 4 months of usage my keyboard would not turn on after waking up from sleep, it required replugging in the keyboard. Sometimes happens on my second computer.
As I got into the hobby more, I find that the integrated aluminum tray does not do it for me. Something about my spacebar doesn't sound the way I want it, even after different modification attempts.
If you want to use this a tester keyboard, it's not bad. Just a few too many screws.
Overall I suggest this as a great intro to custom keyboards or people that like layout and just want it as a "one-and-done" keyboard. I personally feel that you may out grow this if you continue into the hobby --- it did for me --- BUT at least it was an experience that taught me what I like.
I finally put this keyboard together. While most of the board works, the right alt key does not work no matter how many other switches replace it with.
My first custom board and I must say I'm very impressed for only $142. Big step up from my Ducky. The frame is a large sized chunk of well machined aluminum and It's has to be one the heaviest keyboards I've ever picked up and it's only 65%. The purple is very bright and lovely looks almost pink. Inside there are 5 layers of foam to help dampen although some may say they don't do much due to integrated frame but I wouldn't know and I think it sounds fantastic. To my pleasant surprise the LEDS are actually south facing and not north facing like the picture shows. They shine great under my solid keycaps and with the included optional acrylic frame bottom you can have ground effects! Overall very pleased to get this solid board at such a great price. Great first custom keyboard.
This was my first metal/alu keyboard, so even though it is a budget keyboard it still feels premium to me due to the heft of it. The finishing is great and there were no scuffs, scratches, or any blotchiness of the anodization. My two complaints however are there are too many mounting points (standoffs) for the plate and pcb to screw together. I would say 4 maximum would be sufficient. The other is not so much a complaint but preference or modding compatibility, but it is that there is not much room left under the pcb towards the bottom of the case mear the spacebar. I kept getting a pinginess or hollow/resonant sounding keyboard. I fixed this with tape mod, and putting pe foam under the pcb. Even though the pe foam is under the pcb instead of between the switch and pcb it still provides a somewhat poppy sound signature. To do this however I had to remove 1 layer of case foam because the bottom was bulging slightly near the screw mounts. I don’t have a problem with the integrated plate. Could it feel better had it not been integrated? Sure! But I bought this knowing it wouldn’t be much of a problem to me. However, less stiff plates/mounting are my preference.
Idobao ID67
ePBT WOB keycaps x Geekark Tiffany Modifiers kit
Gateron Black Ink v2 lubed w 205g0 and deskeys films
durock v1 stabs (holee modded, 205g0 on housing, DE on wires)
pe foam (under pcb) and tape mod (1 layer of case foam removed)
Literally one of my fave kits
I have currently 3 id67s. All seemed very high quality in the anodized department and they have a nice weight to them. Foams that comes with it eliminates case ping well so theres no worry about acoustic properties. Id buy another immediately.
Pricing great, included foam great, south-facing 5-pin hot swap!!!. I have no comment to make about the included stabilizers because I replaced them with some Durock V2s but the board overall is amazing! I put on some C3 Kiwis and lubed/filmed them and they sound WAY better than I could've thought. The included foam EVERYWHERE does wonder.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I am building my first mech keyboard and the id67 was perfect. I was going to buy on the idobao website but the waiting is 20-45 buisness days. On here it’s like 5-10. I just needed to confirm it is south facing and u answered it immediately. thanks again man. Appreciate it!
south facing, screw in stabs, 65% layout at this price is great but as Griese says screws want to strip themselves and quality could be better in that regard
This a good board especially for people just getting into mechanical keyboards. That being said, it's not winning any awards. The sounds it sub par. It feels like the screw want to strip themselves. VIA support is in the works but not there yet. But it's a good board if you're looking to try out a 65% keyboard.
flow23They released support since I posted this. In fact, support is now built into VIA without uploading the JSON, IIRC. Though you may still have to last the VIA supported firmware with QMK.
