jyeoYes, if your Chromecast has a 1/8" (3.5mm) jack, you can connect it directly to the corresponding input on the Zen Can.
And yes, with the right adaptor cable, you can connect to your power amp from the 4.4mm balanced output. I own this unit and use this output to feed another headphone amp or powered monitors. In this way, the Zen Can can be used as a pre-amp with a buttery-smooth volume knob.
jyeoNo problem. One more thing...
While the iFi Signature Amps have 3.5mm single-ended (SE) and 4.4mm Balanced headphone outputs, they do not have a SE line-out or pre-out.
So iFi made a 3.5mm to 4.4mm Balanced Adapter that can be used to convert a 4.4mm balanced signal to 3.5m single-ended (SE). Its two primary use cases:
[1] Plugged into the Signature Amp's rear 4.4mm pre-out jack for use with speaker/headphone amplifiers that only have SE inputs, like regular 3.5mm or RCA. (In this way, the Signature Amp would be used as a pre-amp.)
[2] For use with regular (3.5mm SE) headphones to convert the balanced signal from amplifiers that only have balanced-outs, such as the xDuoo MT-604.
mattrisThanks. I plan to use the 4.4 out to an old 90s amp so I don't have to manually change it's input between my Chromecast and my CD player. The ifi will just be a pre amp unless I want to use only headphones
jyeoSounds like a good idea. In that case, that particular iFi Balanced Adapter would work for you... in conjunction with a male 3.5mm (1/8" stereo phono jack) to RCA cable of your choice.
Unlike other similar adapters, I can confirm that it works perfectly. It's T-shaped and is available on Amazon and other audio-centric webstores.
All the best.
