We are excited to bring the EDC Drop community this updated version on the Cache EDC Valet Display. Much is the same, same price - same layout - we elevated the valet with black powder coated trim, a locking mechanism. Due to community feedback, we are also offering a nesting drawer as an add-on; one needs not stop at one, because you can add as many drawers as you wish.

john.webbSeems you guys have problems stocking this display valet storage box. The same happens with other popular goods, can you solve this issue instead of having out of stock items and loosing sales to other display valet vendors?

john.webbIt would be great if the removable knife draw was split into two pieces at the edge of the 3rd and 4th compartment, allowing you to choose to have one/both or neither, still opting to use one of the storage squares underneath the knife tray. I have no need or interest in that many devoted knife slots. Cheers. Edit: I now see the product originally had this, and has been removed because... ? What a step backwards. And no glass for this pricepoint? Oof.

Hey everyone,
The concept for this was driven by the question, “what’s in your current EDC rotation?” - variations of this question drive much of the discussions on our site and across social media. For many of our members, the core items - keys, wallet, phone - but beyond this, enthusiasts in the communities we serve tend to have multiples of other items like knives, pens, and watches.
You might just be starting a collection and looking for room to grow, or you might have dozens of knives and just use this to display what’s in your current rotation - either way, we designed this box around the idea that yeah lot of people like the idea of carrying a different knife every day of the week, whether you’re into #terzuolatuesday #wharncliffewednesday #FerrumFriday or whatever else.
I started working on this awhile back, after looking at my own storage “solution” for knives and other EDC items at home, and realizing. I checked around to see what else was available - I found some knife storage, and some dump trays for EDC stuff, but it seemed like nobody had really come up with an elegant solution that really tailored to knife collectors.
I thought about it for awhile, talked to some knife designers, and posted in our Talk area to see if other people had the same issue or other solutions. (https://www.massdrop.com/talk/3254/what-do-you-do-for-edc-and-knife-storage-display)
Members posted some great photos of all kinds of solutions, from tool chests to plastic bins and even some custom-made solutions - but again, I didn’t really see anything that was purpose-built to display knives and hold other items as well. So, I set about making something that I thought our members would enjoy based on this idea
From there, I enlisted the help of our in-house engineer, John Yu, who saw there was unused space below the knife tray and came up with the idea for hidden storage underneath, and did a lot of work in CAD making sure that our manufacturer understood this...because, let’s face it, not everyone “gets it” when you try to explain you need an elegant solution for people who own so many knives they need a special box to keep their favorite ones handy.
This was particularly fun for me to work on because it’s the first product that I’ve really designed from scratch, and also because it was built specifically to serve the Massdrop community. Thanks for checking it out, hope you like it!
* The drop will begin at 6:00am PT on Wednesday, April 25th. * The price will be $119.99 (shipped to US addresses). * This drop is limited to 1500 units * The AAA flashlight will only be included on this first pre-production drop.

JonasHeinemanAny update on the box?
Hi everyone, We have an update on the April/May Massdrop Cache EDC Display Valet drop. Unfortunately, the shipment to our warehouse was delayed and we are unable to meet our estimated ship date. Right now, we’re estimating the chests to begin shipping to members in mid-October.
We apologize for this significant delay and we know it is extremely disappointing for everyone involved. We’re working closely with our shipping partner to prioritize this shipment and get it to our warehouse as soon as possible. If you don’t want to wait the additional time, you can cancel your order via the transactions page: https://www.massdrop.com/transactions Again, we apologize for the delay. We’ll provide an update in September with the latest information.

Do you have an update on whats going on with this? The lack of communication on this is starting to get rather frustrating.

SomeITGuyAgreed. The lesson that Massdrop should be taking from all this is that there is no such thing as too much communication. Weekly status updates would not be too much in this case.

Hmmm....came back to look at this again in the new drop.... Gotta say, the review scores don't seem to match up at all with what the comments section looks like 🤔 Are all the people who had complaints just not bothering to post reviews? I still don't see the price they're asking for the materials used, especially after seeing some of the customer photos

Not grandstanding, just elaborating where the responses recieved implied i might have needed to explain myself better. And at the same time keeping the conversation open, allowing others a chance to respond again with any additional insight they might have the might sway me. That IS a discussion (no quotes). And here is where I WILL get on a soap box for a moment to go off on a bit of a tangent- read it if you like, or skip to the end. This is a huge problem with society in this internet age. People have become so accustomed to dealing with snippets from closed minded people, with closed ended statements, who are dead set in their opinion and have no intention of having an open conversation, yet they still feel the need to let their opinion be known to the world anyway. We see so much of this that the majority don't seem to know what to do anymore with an actual debate. Half the people can't see someone defend their opinion without getting offended, or disproportionately defensive. The other half can't defend their own views when challenged and resort to personal attacks instead. And somehow this has become socially acceptable!? We live in a sad age of entitlement, stubbornness, and disregard. Look at the number of posts around here about any number of things that boil down to "do x, y, and z if you want me as a customer". They aren't engaging in discussions about product improvements, and they certainly aren't trying to listen to reason on why those changes can't be made. They're making demands and walking away, somehow surprised that that didn't get them what they wanted. I, on the other hand, was trying to discuss the perceived value of an item. I'm not just saying "it's too much" and walking away. Like I said, I even came back to see if my mind would be changed after the first batch was delivered and people had a chance to comment and share pictures. Obviously it was not, so I decided to spark up a conversion to discuss it further.
If someone from MD, who has insight into the manufacturing process and pricing strategy, wants to come in and explain how they got to the final price based on the cost of materials and the number of man hours that go into each piece, I'd be all ears. I don't believe that will happen, and they certainly aren't required to, but it would make for an interesting read. Anyway, it's basically this: If my mind is so set on something that my opinion can't be swayed, you usually won't see me comment, unless it's a case where I have first hand experience with a product and am sharing that experience. If I engage in a conversation about a product I don't own, then it's because I want to hear both sides. But, don't expect that means I'm going to flip sides at the very first response, without pushing for more details and asking you to elaborate and back up your opinions if something you're saying doesn't jive with the rest of what I'm seeing/hearing/reading. That doesn't mean it's personal, or that I'm not listening. It just means you haven't convinced me otherwise yet. It's Debating 101.

KavikI finally pulled the trigger on this and I love be it. It's constructed very nicely and it's big, at least bigger than I thought it would be. I'm definitely happy with it tho. It's certainly worth it.

I think a lot of people are conflating "overpriced" and "out of budget" or "not for me". Just because one is unwilling to pay the asking price doesn't necessarily mean the product is overpriced. We see it all the time in other MD Communities (e.g. mech keyboards and audiophile). I think there's a lot of misguided disdain that stems from rudimentary understandings of logistics and manufacturing processes. I find it odd and somewhat bothersome that these enthusiast communities full of people who care very dearly about materials used, fit and finish, quality, and specs of products often know so little about how these products are brought to life.

eksuenEveryone has an opinion, it what makes the discussions entertaining. Naturally there will be many people who do not understand the logistics of design and implementation via manufacturing but so what? In the end, a company needs to have a markup so as to sustain their business of selling. That is economy/capitalism 101; it’s still just opinions and it is lively. Massdrop came up with another winner in the discussions board (lol) seemingly like the MD collabs on the blades. I agree that it may not be overpriced but just out of budget. Let’s see what the sell number ends up being at the end of the drop. Hehehe I bet it’s a good one.

TRexSrWhat saddens me the most about this drop is that it's not made with real leather (like other Wolf drops have been, that or real wood) and it doesn't have a glass top. If it had those two I'd likely buy. I really like the design (although I have some issues with it's layout but that's based on my use case) but I want real quality and longevity and that means no vinyl or acrylic.
Hey everyone, We wanted to check in regarding the quality control check on the EDC Display Valet. QC has officially been completed and we are glad to say this product is now being prepared for shipment. After individually inspecting each unit by hand, we decided that nearly 10% of the total drop did not adhere to our standards and we’re now confident that only the highest quality units will be delivered to you.
A few pictures of our team conducting QC at the warehouse are below.
Again, thank you so much for your patience and we look forward to you receiving your display valet soon!

Thank you for getting back to me. What you’ve got so far is a beautifully set up case so please don’t think that I am holding out for more! I like that all voices are heard and we feel like we are an integral part of this process. That is just one reason why we’re here! So put me down for two (!) and thanks again for hearing me out. Have a great week, Jonas.

AxeguyAlways glad to hear from you @Axeguy , and no worries @YankeeRider - we are community-driven in our product development, which includes these discussions but extends far beyond that. I appreciate you and every other member who's chiming in with suggestions. It's also great to hear ideas about how we can enhance your involvement in the development process. And I also think part of my job, which is a unique aspect of Massdrop, is being pretty candid with members about the challenges and limitations of manufacturing, and offering insights that are not usually available from other platforms - in addition to sharing all of the opportunities that our model offers. You guys make all of this possible, so keep on driving the discussion and we'll keep listening and responding! - J

We NEED another drop of these please. @Drop make this happen so we can all store our goodies
As Lukas said, yes the Valet is coming back soon. It has almost the exact same size / configuration with some trim refinements AND due to community input - we are also launching a nesting drawer as an add-on. More to come soon.

john.webb"Due to community input?" Was that a serious statement? No. It's what was promised to original purchasers, who continually asked for updates on when the drawer was coming - who now get shafted because you changed things.

RJESHahah. Nope, I don't think it will fit either. Lol. I need this case in my life. People were complaining about the price. Saying it's expensive for the materials. Do they not understand that this is made to order. If the leather was upgraded to real leather it would cost this damn near $300

While I appreciate Massdrop designing a product that fits the needs of the community....I'm a bit shocked at the price. This unit is 2x what it should cost considering it's not solid wood, it's fake leather, the lid is plastic and not glass and the interior material is microfiber which is pretty cheap.
There are tons of products out there that are similar, made of solid wood and have glass tops...for significantly less money.
Sorry but while this is a nicely design product it's completely if not outrageously overpriced for what it is.

SantiagoDracoExactly this! I don't own any knives but I do own a vast collection of spinning tops and glass marbles that I'd like to show off, modular design would be MUCH better.
Acrylic is so scratch prone that it'd look bad 1 week in, come on Massdrop, we know you can do much better.

Exactly right plus the group buying power has lost so much of its value when you can find the same thing for a better price elsewhere on so many of these drops. Always be checking!
