Great utility knife. I much rather carry a knife that I am not afraid to damage. Despite the price, This knife feels solid in the hand.

Just wrote reviews for 3 of my prior Kershaw knife purchases here on Massdrop, and this Emerson that I bought is no different. What else can I say? You cannot go wrong with a Kershaw. Very high quality, extremely durable, great looking, great build quality on their blades, handles and mechanisms, easy to sharpen, fit perfectly in my hands. And the best part: they cost easily anywhere from 2x to 10x less than many of their direct competitors, while not giving up an inch on quality of build or function or appearance. These knives are outstanding values, and they will last a lifetime - and beyond. These knives will go to my children and grandchildren when I'm gone. If you have any doubt about these knives - put them aside and rest assured. These knives are a way better value than many others that you can buy out there that don't really provide anything more or different or certainly better than a Kershaw. OK, enough of the informercial. Just do it.

I needed an EDC Knife and have one other Kershaw, though not one of Ernst Emerson’s designs. I do like the ingenious Wave ‘hook’ feature that allows the blade to deploy upon extraction out of a pocket- which would work if the knife came centered... but mine initially arrived tight and dragging on the lock. This was remedied after spending another $20 to have it sent back to Kershaw for ‘alignment‘. The Wave ‘hook’ feature is illegal in NY/NJ as mentioned & Michigan so keep that in mind if pulled over by law enforcement... the knife initially was sharp when I first got it, but when it came back from Kershaw it had been dulled. Successive times with the Lansky Knife Sharpening System hasn’t improved the blades sharpness- the Authorized Kershaw dealer I took the knife to for its ‘alignment‘ said it’s a ‘beginners knife’ and will not hold a good edge whether I sharpen it or they do... so for me it’s a tacklebox knife and I rarely fish here in Indiana!

applguyThat Authorized Kershaw dealer is full of crap. 8Cr14MoV is perfectly capable of holding a good edge. The fact that he dulled it when he aligned it just shows his incompetence. I'd consider reporting him to Kershaw central.

Love it
I'm not a big knife person but wanted something a bit more substantial than my handy Kershaw shuffle. This knife is exactly what I needed. It seems to hold an edge pretty well, locks nicely in the frame, and the wave feature is great. Very happy with it especially given the price point

I really like the Emerson opener on this knife, the price point is great too, If this knife came in a better steel like D2, and maybe a few different grinds, specifically tanto and wharncliffe, I would easily pay $60 for them

Great knife for everyday use, can’t imagine having a better cheap knife that I can easily use without having to worry about the price tag or damage.

GOODPPLIf the action is “very right” why would it require adjustments and oiling? Do you mean after your adjustments it was right? I don’t understand.

WildrickAction was very tight when received. Loosened the set screw and lubricated with blade oil. Much better now.

It was cheap, but it's not centered, the Emerson "Wave" only works %30 of the time and then only when I concentrate on pulling sorta down and back while pulling it out and I can't open it with the thumb disk. It feels pretty good in the hand and has a nice heft to it. It will make an excellent beater - after I replace the Teflon washers with phosphor-bronze and work on the action, which is mainly to help with the "wave" opening and centering. I hold out no hope for ever being able to open it with the thumb disk because the for me to get a good enough right hand grip on the knife I am pressing on the frame lock (yes I cna open as is with my left hand).

Fast becoming a favourite EDC for working around the house. Solid knife, great ergos and at the price point I don't have to worry about being too careful with it. I like that it can be serviced with regular screw drivers (which is why I purchased a second one for my brother in law). My only minor gripe was the tip on mine was a bit rounded and I wish it had slightly better blade steel but they've priced it accordingly.

If you have any interest in knives - get this knife. It just ... feels right. I will be purchasing more to give as gifts.
