Don't need a powerful amp at all. Very easy to drive even with the mojo

I wouldn't say you need a particularly powerful amp but certainly would not bother using it with something like phone. Impedance is low but the sensitivity is very low also and it's this that requires some decent juice.

I find that it is easier to drive than power hungry one like HE6 but it still needs a good power like 1w or more to make it sound the way it should. I tried Schiit Valhalla (class A OTL tube) and the dynamics are compressed in the complex piece of music.
Are these open or closed-back?

Adding on to my reply - subjectively but also very much correlating with the technology - planat magnetic headphones (and to some extent their loudspeaker counterparts) have a very crisp clear sound, with excellent mids and more often better base than electrostatics. Good electrostatics often have clearer treble (some planars at the lower end have sibilance in my experience), but the better planars have amazing treble in my experience. Since this post is about the HiFiMan Edition XX - I have these (and Koss Electrostatics) - and the HiFiMans are considerably better throughout. I would say they are my end game for now - until my financial status changes ;-).

Obviously they are open back, but it isn't too bad.
