There Are Pandas, and Then There Are Pandas.
And this isn't either of them! The Pandas we're talking about here, are watches, not bears. And what got me thinking about them (again) was a link posted this morning by @cm.rook who pointed a few of us to the very attractive (and not terribly priced) Yema "Rallygraph" Panda which, in it's most traditional arrangement, looks like the one on the left, but can also be had in the version on the right: The model on the left is a true Panda, while the model on the right is called a reverse Panda. The reason for that distinction is clear--Panda bears, only come in the first arrangement. Now at this point, everyone should be thinking about the most well-know Panda, The Rolex Panda, which is actually a Daytona, and among Rolex Daytonas, the most famous of which is the Paul Newman Daytona, which was famous first, because it was Paul's, and second because it sold at auction for $17.8 million (US Dollars). If you advertised a frame/liner lock knife as left-handed to anyone even remotely familiar with these types of knives, they would expect a mirror of the right-handed version - i.e. the lock bar and detent moved to the opposite side. I don't think anyone would assume they meant "we just moved a pocket clip to the other side". I believe moving the clip to the opposite side counts as "left-hand carry" to most people.
The ad copy enthusiastically crowing about there being a "lefty version" (which costs $5 more) is reminiscent of shit you see on products in supermarkets with crap like "30% more!!!". Then you read the small print and it says something like "30% more than our 5oz. version". Here it's "Hey guys, check out this dedicated LEFTY VERSION........(we moved the clip to the other side and it costs 5 dollars more)......Hey! Hey! Look over here! It's DEDICATED to LEFTIES......(we could have made this clip reversible but we needed a way to differentiate this titanium slab knife from our other titanium slab knives, plus it uses the same clip as the Crux/Falcon) *Waves hands in front of everyone's faces* LEFTIES!"
