hm strange, my HD515 which was bought while ago have 6.3mm jack as a main unit and adapter was to 3.5mm (HD515 cost me ~$100) and these HD58x will have 3.5mm jack as main - why it so? (to better suit to mobile devices?) Thanks,

no real reason. 6.3 is more reliable but it's unclear why 515/555/595 had 6.3 jack, most headphones have 3.5 with screw-on adapters.

I'm sure mobile has a lot to do with it. Personally I have so many freaking 3.5 > 6.3mm jacks that I don't know what to do with them all. It seems every headphone nowadays comes with one. I don't see nearly as many 6.3 > 3.5 adapters and honestly they don't seem as well built as the 6.3 adapters that screw onto your cable as you're highly unlikely you'd snap off a plug.

Sennheiser's built well, but yes, you right created lever damaged my laptop 3.5mm socket ) but 6.3 more usefull for amplifiers, not many of fullsize amplifiers have 3.5mm
