It’s an expensive steel hence the cladding. As far as I can tell the cladding is a cost savings measure as typically also used to protect the middle steel from rust. But SG2 is already relatively corrosion resistant.
I’ve seen some people complain that the cladding is uneven. To me the upside on that defect is that you got more SG2 steel than the cheaper steel clad so whoever received those defective units got more bang for their buck.
