I didn’t really need a macro pad. I don’t stream or code or design, but I am a gadget freak and I am playing around with it. It’s easy to figure out thanks to VIA/QMK.
I love this product.
Until I move, at all.
Then it either resets itself or hangs in a weird state with half of the LEDs lit and no keys working. A consumer product like this without proper ESD protection is a failure in hardware design.
Granted, I produce more static than other humans for some reason. But still.
Easy to program and my wife loves hers.
Feels solid and the underglow adds a nice ambiance.
torgnyGot the same problem. As soon as I touch the metal-parts it shuts-down and resets, or it malfunctions and I have to reset it manually by disconnecting it...
The product itself is great. VIA works great to remap the keys, remapping the wheels are a bit more complicated because they don't give you all the options in the software but I was able to map the wheels to macros with a little work. However, after I purchased this on drop I noticed the company that makes this device is selling it for $20 less on their website. I reached out to drop and since it is not a drop.com product they could not give me a refund of the difference or even accept a return.
It's a good product but save yourself the $20 and buy it from KeebMonkey instead.
First off, this thing looks like the business. I had the grey model which is a sort of gunmetal grey.
It comes with a chonky braided USB C cable and a keycap puller, as well as keycap blanks.
The included switches are quite nice - not exactly a thok, but as it's a macropad rather than a keyboard I'm not bashing it at all. The rotary encoders are nice and tactile, not too stiff.
VIA is absolutely required to get this working, but it is not an intuitive process as some actions in VIA are just not supported by this device, and it's not explicit which ones are not - just trial and error, or hoping someone on the internet has done the legwork - fortunately at time of reviewing, another fellow DROP reviewer has done this legwork and posted it for us :)
Well built device, let down by lack of any first party support, leaving the community to sort it out.
The build quality is better than I expected, but there’s no angle 📐 on the pad. I’ve put some rubber washers on the back to help angle towards me.
software support is not great, it does work with via & vial (after firmware flash) but many things seemingly cannot be bound to the rotary encoders and the whole process is a bit unintuitive.
all that being said, there probably isn’t another macro pad available for this price & quality and it does serve well as a volume dial/mute button which was the primary reason I bought this.
