As expected from Mondaine, it's beautifully true to the Swiss Railway clock, and also very accurate, which is great for a desk clock I can rely on for work. It has gained just over a second since I received it, which shows it's not just a pretty face.

The quality is surprisingly good. Lots of thought put into every detail, right down to the unboxing experience, which is very pleasant. Clock was smaller than I expected, but not in a bad way. The markers on the face are raised, not painted. It feels sturdy. Fun to take it off the magnetic "stand" and play with it.

Reminder Of Switzerland On My Desk
I've always wanted a Mondaine watch as a reminder of several wonderful trips to Europe and Switzerland. The brand makes clocks for the Swiss and other railways so the watches, following the same design, are iconic.
A few years ago, that wasn't an unreasonable objective. However now it's less reasonable as the price has gone up substantially.
Enter the desk clock: it's basically a 40mm Mondaine watch in a 48mm case magnetically attached to a 70mm red base. All for $100 less than the watch itself.
An having a desk clock sitting under the monitor makes keeping up with appointments much, much easier. Despite having a timepiece on my computer, phone, and wrist, the stand-alone clock does have a real use. All in all, a welcome reminder of multiple rail journeys throughout Europe.

Nice Block of Time
This is a very sharp looking piece. A magnetic disk safely holds the clock in a heavy matte finished block of red plastic. The non-slip finish is perfect for display on a desk. Adjusting time may be a little difficult if you bite your nails.

Within a week, the rubberized exterior coating starting peeling off the block and sticking to surfaces. Over the course of a couple of months, one whole side of the block's finish peeled completely off which prompted me to contact Massdrop (now repeatedly being reminded it's just Drop) to provide my candid feedback on the Mondaine desk clock I purchased and perhaps garner some level of appropriate resolution. Drop's customer service was of no meaningful assistance and basically obviated taking any level of responsibility of standing behind a product they sell. I received the following canned response from Drop, "For products that do not have an included manufacturer's warranty, customers have 30 days from the date of delivery to report an issue. For products that include a manufacturer's warranty, customers must report an issue within the stated warranty period. After reviewing your transaction, it appears that the time-frame for reporting an issue has passed, which means we are not able to provide a replacement or facilitate a return." As a result, I would rate my experience with Drop's customer service at just one star, and assess this Mondaine desk clock no more than two stars. I would like to add, the Mondaine clock stopped working after three months.

Love the look, but a piece of junk.
Bought one about a year and a half ago; it stopped running so I tried replacing the battery (5 times!). No luck: its dead.
Asked Drop for assistance, they declined.
Suggest you avoid this - even at $62 a clock you cant rely on is no bargain.

A very nicely engineered clock inside a cheap-feeling block of plastic
The clock is smaller than you think it is, and while the metal clock itself it very nice looking, solid, and well-engineered, the block it's embedded in is cheap looking and feeling. From the photos I assumed it was hard plastic, or wood or metal, but it actually has a surface of rubbery polyurethane or something. I guess it has the advantage of being grippy, but doesn't really fit with the high-end feel of the clock itself.
