The Moon Key 4 Seasons keycaps are absolutely stunning. They are hand-built and finished, and will be a gorgeous addition to every keyboard build.
First of all, the keycaps come in a wooden box, which I didn't expect from this kind of product, what a nice touch.
The build quality is fantastic, with no air bubbles, no imperfections. The keycap is on the taller side, but it works well with my MT3 keycaps.
Now, into the design. I've got the summer version and boy oh boy, this is one hell of a keycap. It has a very natural and organic vibe. No photos will ever do the justice of showing how striking it looks, but I tried my best!
The waterfall, the trees, and the rocks, all closed in resin and acrylic. I really adore this kind of design, when attention to detail meets nature. This keycap is basically a piece of nature for your keyboard, it's calming, elegant, and simply striking. Piece of art.
Oh....and it sounds great!
I can't recommend it enough, get it till it's available, you definitely won't be disappointed.
I got the summer version. The greenery looks less yellow than in the photos. Looks best with backlighting. The keycap came in perfect condition (wooden case had a few scuffs but who cares), and I had no problems installing or removing the keycap on my KTT Strawberry switch. It really sticks out among cherry profile keycaps since its SA R1, but I actually like it this way because I can see the waterfalls better.
I ordered two of these keycaps, one Summer and the other Winter.
They're beautiful and the water glows brilliantly when shined under with a backlight.
Issues: One of the two keycaps requires a very very hard press to be used, and it gets snagged on the switch with a loud, resistive 'thudding' click. It does this no matter what switch it's using and no matter what keyboard it's on. Makes using it very difficult. :( I assume it's part of the molding on the bottom that's just not shaved down right, but it's frustrating. It just looks so good, I want it to work!
Positives: Brightens up my day, looks like a miniature world, beautiful craftsmanship. My second keycap from this set is perfect-- effortless press and meshes with the switch its on perfectly!
I just wish they both were working the way they should. (Being, you know, actually press-able.)
...Fits nicely next to my dragon keycap! :)
Absolutely my favorite artisan I own, friends are always drawn to it from because the way the RGB lights up the resin. Loved the little box it had come in, made it feel like opening a real treasure!
Gorgeous keycap, especially with a backlit keyboard, but I can not recommend anybody purchase this at the current price or build-quality. It broke at the stem after six months on a low-traffic area of my board. The manufacturer does not include a warranty, nor do they have a center for repairs, as per this reply from Drop support:
"If we had the ability to source for individual parts or if there was a repair facility for this item, that would be our first step, however these options are not available in this case."
No attempt from Drop to remedy the situation either, just this statement "Thank you for your understanding of this policy. If we can help you with anything else in the future, please contact us."
Very disappointed. Save your $45 for something better.
I ordered two of these, and they look very nice, don't get me wrong. But on one of them the stem is so loose that it falls right off the switch if you brush against the side of the key, making it completely unusable.
Visually the keycap looks great, the detail is amazing, the way backlighting glows through the water is a nice touch. It's not a cherry profile, so it will stick up unless you have one of the taller more angled key profiles.
My issues start with that it was so snug I had difficulty putting it on my keyboard. Then after a week it fell off, turns out the stem(of the cap, not the key) cracked which is real disappointing for a $45 key cap.
Smaller issue, but I also wish they hadn't bothered with the little wood case...I get it, the presentation is nice, but that only matters for the couple seconds it takes for you to open and remove the key cap, after that it's just a place to put the key it replaced in and eats up space. I'd rather save the money, whatever amount it was for a cardboard box instead.
The key cap is very pretty, especially with backlighting. But I can't help but notice that it's not aligned and is crooked compared to my other keys :( :( :( I understand it's an artisian keycap, but not having it straight just looks sloppy on the keyboard. Despite it being beautiful, it just makes it feel that much less of a high quality piece.
