Thankfully, the construction and finish of this wood coin holder doesn't disappoint. Its solid metal base and well positioned feet keep it from sliding *anywhere,* even when spinning the top...as for the wood finish, It's held up perfectly well after a year of use, including slightly abusing the top as a keychain valet. Surprisingly high capacity and an effortless dispensing of spare change that becomes automatic once you come home.
It's pretty decent for what it is. It's actual real wood for one, and mine didn't come with any defects in the exterior finish. The interior was carved a bit roughly however and could have used a bit of sanding to take the quality to an elevated tier, however this is a Chinese product, and as expected the act of doing the bare minimum to result in a more profitable bottom line is readily apparent in the details of this item. However, you'd have to be pretty nit picky to tear apart the imperfections of a coin storage jug. Although, the most annoying cheapness item of note is the brass under plate that seems to totally clash with the rest of the natural wood construction of the product, and that is why I knocked off a star. Overall it's a satisfactory buy.
akarsnerFor $40 I’d expect a bit more though to be honest. This isn’t a complex product, making sure the finishing and opening action is nice is all they have to do
The wood is nice, but the cheap brass-ish plate underneath fished out of some two-bit parts bin cheapens the overall impression very much.
Even more importantly, the lid doesn’t snap to and fro as sharply and easily as it did in the demo video, it is quite a bit mushier and far less entertaining. Production models must be using a noticeably less powerful magnet than the ones in the video.
I would forgive these things if it was half the price at $20, but for $40 it really should have been better quality. Objectively, this really isn’t a “deal”. The price to quality ratio is way out of whack.
I thought these would make great gifts for the holidays. Given the high price tag for what is essentially a wooden bowl with a magnet, I expected them to be high quality. Unfortunately, when I received them, I received mismatched base finishes, rough-looking wood finishes, and the glue separated on one, resulting in a relative opening a damaged gift. Would not recommend given the high price.
I got this to replace the novelty mug that I'd previously been leaving my spare change in, so I didn't have many expectations beyond that it would be purpose-built for the task and hopefully look more grown-up on my bedside table.
It definitely satisfied both of those counts, and the way the top swings open and closed with a magnet is oddly satisfying. The only minor complaint I have is that, when the container is empty, the magnet keeping the lid straight is actually stronger than the weight of cup, so it's not heavy enough to stay in place when if you try to swing it open while empty.
Now, obviously this is only a minor flaw because with the weight of enough coins to make it even a quarter full, that shouldn't be an issue, and the only time you'll probably ever open it up while it's empty is when you first get it, but it still would've been nice if the base was either a little heavier or had grippy feet to it so that it could stay in place even empty.
The interior quality of the initial two holes were drilled deeper than the rest of the finishing clean up of the inside bottom. Resulting in a noticeable ugliness that can be seen and the reason for deducting a star.
The exterior finish is beautiful and the interior walls were done correctly, so why wasn't the bottom of the interior given the same attention to detail?
