Gents, what laptop would you recommend out there for GTX 1070?
I am considering the Eurocom Tornado F5 at the moment, but still looking around for options.
And where is the best place to buy such laptop in US? (newegg, amazon, direct from the brand website, etc??)
Please share your knowledge. Thanks =D
Can someone explain what benefits the workstation GPUs offer over the gaming GPUs? Performance-wise this seems comparable to the 1060 mobile (6gb) but much more expensive. It has to have some benefit other than avoiding the shame of showing up with a gamer laptop (some of them are pretty discrete now anyway). I use my alienware 15 with 1060 for Lightroom and other photo/video editors all the time and it works well. What makes these so much more expensive?
Fcchelsea136These days it's mostly the CAD design and 3D modeling programs that benefit from the quadro gpus. The quadro drivers have a better OpenGL implementation and some programs include features that are only enabled with a 'certified' gpu. Hardware wise this is exactly the same hardware as the GTX980 gaming gpu just with more memory, it's really only the drivers that make it different.
Theoretically, 980, however they are not really comparable. The Quadro graphics cards are specifically designed to be used by CAD programs and so are similar in power to lower end gtx cards but you will get infinitely better results with quadro cards (that said, it is starting to change and personally I have been able to work with Solid Edge and NX on a gtx 960M).
vinmackit's not mechanical keyboard. You will find mechanical keyboard on other premium gaming machines. So far, MSI has GT83VR (Cherry Brown Switches), GT75VR (Cherry Silver Switches) with mechanical keyboards. ACER has the Predator 21" Laptop, Razer New Blade Pro, I think Gigabyte may have on model, but i don't care for the brand in laptops so not sure.
" plus the latest 6th generation Intel Core i7 processors "
These are LAST generation.
Latest is Kaby Lake / 7th gen
[edit] - these are now TWO generations ago, though notice they've dropped mention of latest anything now.
Yes, but changing the card to a P5000 for workstation use puts it at a much higher price point. The current gen MSI with the 7820hk and P5000 is the best option right now. Also, that F5 only has a 15.4" screen where a 17.3" is preferred for productivity. The MSI also boasts a 100% adobe rgb if you get the right model, which is needed depending on the work. Whereas the F5 would have to be refitted with a different $350 IGZO panel to compete. Trust me, I did my research on these things, but it all comes down to what each individual needs.
VetteV12Guess it depends on what productivity stuff you're doing. Mine require a bunch of CPU AND GPU power. 7820hk wouldn't cut it. The CPU for running multiple machines, the gpu for the hash power. Screen doesn't really matter to me, but if imaging were your thing I would have thought CPU power would be more important. Other than the screen of course.
