Handmade in Maryland, the Masters of Writing inks by Organics Studio tell the stories of famous writers with unique hues you won’t find anywhere else. This is the company’s Waldon Pond Blue, inspired by 19th-century American essayist, poet, and transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau. The color recalls the surface of Walden Pond in Massachusetts, the place where Thoreau spent two years living in a cabin he built himself—and also the subject of his best-known work, Walden. This blue-green ink has good shading and is notable for its pink-to-purple sheen, which appears even with thinner nibs and on lower-quality paper. The result of the dye crystallizing onto the page (rather than simply embedding itself into the fibers), sheen allows ink to reflect light in a way that dye wouldn’t do otherwise.
