They are by far the most comfortable and durable headphones I've owned (including the cloth pads that have gone through years of wear and tear now). Ath-M50, HD598, HD58x, HD6xx and Philips SP1900 don't come close to these in terms of comfort so I don't think you need to worry about the earpads.
There simple mods that can be done (basic idea is to cover up some of the rear venting) which will give it more bass but it won't be tight and punchy. Check out Z Reviews or something like that on youtube and you will find plenty of mods to give them more bass. I was perfectely happy with them and still am even though I've got the HD6xx and 58x now. The 9500 are extremely durable and comfortable, good soundstage and decent imaging/detail, well worth the money.
I have a pair of these and there is a bit of bass but there's not a lot of it. These lean more towards brightness and are fairly sibilant. It hurts my ears sometimes. They sound pretty great for the $60 I paid for it, I did not get them on drop though.
I tend to like the sound of Sennheiser 500-series headphones, as well as Audio-Technica models like the ATH-M40. Realizing that "sound characteristics" can be pretty subjective, anyone who own these willing to take a stab at describing it ? Esp. if your familiar with the Sennheisers or the Audio-Technicas ?
I own ATH M40.. the thing is i will pick the SPH more often then ATH in my daily use.. these comfy .. and more sound space .. it open back.. hook up with onkyo receiver and topping d50s.. make me happy all day..
