What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? I would also gladly switch from a black aluminum bottom to something else in order to receive everything on time.
Edit: Just to be clear, I understand this is a very small operation and everything is made to order. I just think many users would probably prefer to switch to a plain aluminum bottom or similar over waiting. Waiting is hard!
With several different manufacturers providing the different parts of Planck, one of them was bound to screw up. And the communication between them and massdrop is limited, hence the manufacturer of the milled bottoms probably tried their best to catch up and only when it was evident they couldn't fulfill the orders in time (in a demanded quality) they informed massdrop..
They could have done a half assed job to finish on time, I'm glad they are doing a proper job. This is a second run custom product, I don't get the hate that some here give.
