This item looks 3D printed. At the costs of 3d plastic this costed less then 5 cents to produce. Lets say 0.02 cents.
At a $9.99 sale price, that is a 49,850.00% markup.
I'd rather buy a $600 3d printer and try to make my own trinkets for a 50,000% markup cost.

jonkeeyIf you haven't noticed, Massdrop isn't a discount store. A lot of the items are available cheaper elsewhere, especially when you factor in the shipping costs. It's your own duty to find a better deal.

jonkeeyFactor in the time to make the file, wear on the printer, all of the test runs and manufacturing errors, the time running the machine, and any 3d printing experience they've built up. Not really a 50,000% markup anymore.
It's fine if you don't value your time, but most businesses can't afford not to.
jonkeey3D printing isn't as cheap as you think it is! These definitely are 3d printed, on a printer that costs way more than $600 and then they are polished so that they don't have a raw finish.
That said, if you're really interested in making some money selling custom keycaps, allow me to introduce you to Click Clack - http://www.overclock.net/t/1318833/wow-this-key-sold-for-250-at-geekhack-those-dudes-are-crazy/30

The_DoctorActually, massdrop's entire marketing tactic from the start was a discount group buy system. That is how they advertised on forums.
The idea was, you can help out smaller businesses by very large orders which gives them a large volume of business at the trade of lower-than-normal rates of cost. The lowered cost is justified because massdrop handles fullfillment of the order, shipping costs, etc and the producer just has to get the drop to massdrop.
I was one of the first massdrop users buying car parts off here, and that's how most of the group buys were organized and why you saved a lot of money.
Now days, I've noticed things being HIGHER then retail regularly now and then MSRP is reached when the commit value is reached. This seems backwards, but I guess since they've hired 15 employees to find products all day, they gotta do something to meet their costs.

AndrewLekashmanSo when are you gonna drop some Clack Skulls?
jonkeeyHey Jokeey,
If it's not too much trouble, can you send me an email with some of the products you're talking about? will@massdrop.com
I'm very curious to know which items those are and I'd really appreciate an email if you have the time.
Thanks!

WillDude, just look around and Google stuff. I see products on here all the time that are as much if not more expensive then where you can get it elsewhere like Amazon. It isn't our job to do research for your company.

scott.vater.9He's asking which drops have been higher than prices elsewhere, not for him to do pricing research. MD does typically try to get the lowest price everywhere they can, they're not your adversaries. His job is to get you the lowest price he can, and knowing somewhere else is getting it cheaper is definitely something that helps us out.
