What is SpaceFN and why you should give it a try
The SpaceFN concept - setting up your space key as a layer switch when held - is probably one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby. Let me explain how it works. My SpaceFN article on kbd.news made some rounds recently - quite surprisingly given the age of this concept. This piece you're reading is a condensed version of the full post. If you're left with unanswered questions, you'll most likely find the info you're looking for in the original write-up. On my imaginary top list of the most useful keyboard features, tweaks and hacks, SpaceFN would deserve a podium finish for sure. But what makes it so special? In short: SpaceFN is easy to implement, easy to learn, costs nothing, can be used with any keyboard, and can improve your productivity instantly. I will list its benefits below, but can state right at this point that the SpaceFN concept, setting up your space key as a layer switch when held, is clearly one of the most useful tweaks in the keyboard hobby....

I think this makes it a good compromise for people like me who use keyboards for typing on forums and for gaming. I guess in a way it is like genuine topre being the blues while the rc930 being the browns. If you really wanted purely gaming keyboard then most would recommend cherry mx red/black but also a lot of it has to do with preference. Some gamers like to have some tactile feedback which makes both mx red/black and mx brown very popular for gamers. So yea that is my thought process is that if you are "typist" just buy a hhkb, hhkb silenced, or realforce (if you need the full keyboard) and pay the 200+ dollars for them since you will end up wanting to upgrade to them anyway. But if you are someone who types a little bit here and there and also buying a keyboard for gaming and want to try something more "topre-like" then I think this keyboard is great especially if you are like me and want backlight for gaming in the dark and enjoy the rgb color aesthetics.
It also doesn't hurt your wallet as much as a pure topre but I personally can't justify with how little I really type on a day to day basis to pay 200+ dollars for a keyboard. I just want something well built that will last me many years. The shine will continue to be used on my 2nd computer since I needed a second keyboard anyway and i personally like this over the mx brown and enjoying the tkl aspect since my mouse isn't bumping into my keyboard anymore. I didn't like how the mx brown were a bit scratchy and i really like how the rc930 keys spring back up. The tactile feel is also different. At first it feels like mx blacks when you just start pushing down on the keys because mx brown have a distinct click as you push down, but you start to realize that there is a tactile bump at the top of the key as you start typing. I also moved over my vortex backlit pbt keycaps from the ducky to the rc930. Makes the sound a bit more muffled i think and the feel of the keys a bit better, but the original keys have some texture to them just not as much but not as slick and smooth as the ducky shine og keys.
