I have strong and thick nails, and I don't like them long so I trim them often. I've been using cheap trimmers forever and have to file them after because they end up so sharp from the other trimmers. These are like night and day, smooth cuts (not crushing!) the trimmed nails fall straight down instead of shooting away. I spent more than I would normally consider for nice trimmers but I'm sure I'll have these for life and they work great.
They cut great, as expected, and are a big improvement over my old ones.
But I have all the quirks that others complained about in previous drops.
1. Case isn't leather. But it is very good quality, and I expect it will stay looking nice indefinitely.
Actually it may turn out to be better than leather, since I won't have to worry about water and humidity damage over the years.
2. On the toenail clippers, the cutting edges don't quite line up when closed. I can see and feel that.
They still cut very nicely, but who knows how much better they would be if done right?
Fingernail clippers are good though.
3. The toenail clippers don't open as far as my old ones. I measured 2.32mm opening on these.
My old ones open a bit more, 2.86mm.
That doesn't seem like much difference, but it does make it more obvious how much my toenails curve down and under at the edges. These still work, but I may have to change my technique a bit.
4. The Seki label on them is just a plastic sticker.
Interesting that the box and case both say "Seki Edge by Green Bell", and a nice Green Bell logo is stamped into the metal on the underside of the clippers.
Does Green Bell make these and provide to multiple manufacturers? I see ones on Amazon that look identical, but with other companies stickers in place of Seki.
Bottom line: I still think I got a decent deal, and that these should last my lifetime at least.
But while these are a big step up from my old ones, I'm not convinced these are really the ultimate, premium quality they are advertised as.
If I had seen them in a store before buying, I might have looked for something else before paying that price.
Very high quality nail clippers that are perfectly sharp when received. The set was so impressive to my wife that when I mentioned that there was a full grooming kit available if she liked the 2 piece that she told me I could not have the 2 piece kit back until I got her the full grooming kit, which also has a few other very high quality tools for daily grooming needs. Would recommend without batting an eyelash, and although the price may seem kind of high for just nail clippers or the full grooming kit, the quality is unmatched. All pieces are made in Seki, Japan, the steel and knife capital of Japan. The carrying case for both sets is a nice touch and protects the contents from drops.
Quality not up to scratch. Blades are uneven on the larger clipper and a chunk is missing from the smaller clipper on one end. One also had a rust spot on the blade face. I posted my opinion in the discussion forum when they were first received.
I was disappointed in the workmanship of my set. I’d bought several at the same time, one for myself and three to hold back for Christmas gifts. Fortunately the other three sets were ok, but the one I kept for myself showed poor quality control. The opening for the leverage post had not been properly finished. There were multiple curly sharp slivers of metal still attached to the hole from when they had bored the hole out. I had to pry these out for the clippers to function properly. (I posted photos in the discussion section months ago when I received the clippers.)
Unfortunately there is nothing remarkable about these nail clippers. The all metal handle design does have a tendency to slip out your hands . Really wanted to like these .
These are made very well and strong. They will stand up to abuse. I have thick healthy nails that can be very difficult to clip, these glide easily through with minimal effort, and make a clean cut.
These clippers are much sharper than my old Kroger clippers. They cut through my nails with ease. However, when clipping hangnails and such, they don’t cut quite as cleanly as I expected. Overall, I’m happy with them.
