Want to learn why DROP chose to price at $2000, even higher than the $1849 at Amazon.

glkparanoidBecause they heard that there's a sucker born every minute and wanted to test the theory for themselves.

ThesesuckSucker in a 3 piece suit
SmestarZI've said it too many times to explain in full detail again but here is the quick and dirty: Senn enforces Minimum Advertised Pricing in their distribution agreements, if drop were to advertise below that Senn get mad... Senn get mad... they lose their number one seller and future collaboration opportunities. Work your way up that Dunning-Krueger graph, one can always acquire more knowledge.

ElectronicVicesYes, can agree with that, but then Drop can always give a big discount for its loyal customers. HD 820 is a end game. how many would really use the points (and that discount to purchase another) post the purchase? Else they should offer a good DAC/AMP that can run HD820 and give that DAC/AMP at very high discount making it attractive.
SmestarZThat would again jeopardize their relationship with Sennheiser. See the now defunct BuySonic and Sonic Electronix headphone deals for what happens when you play in the grey area of an distribution agreement. I would also strongly encourage listening to this headphone before buying or buy from someone with a liberal return policy. It won't be everyones cup of tea, the reduced upper bass/lower mid will be polarizing.
glkparanoidThe reason is that authorized dealers agree to adhere to MAP: manufacturer’s authorized pricing. So, everyone took their $2399 HD 820 on sale to $2000 at the same time, except Drop is offering $200 store credit on top of that (so if you were getting an amp anyway, like you should, then it’s like a $1800 value). The two or three sellers offering $1849 on Amazon are not authorized sellers, and only have like 150 customer reviews of the “store’s” service.

EvshrugSo you are implying that Drop is an authorized dealer. And we should start expecting authorized dealer support from Drop starting when?
ThesesuckEvery time they have "full manufacturers warranty" listed in the details... like this particular Drop.
ThesesuckSo, I’m learning. I’ll reply again when I find more details... Apparently there is a distinction between stock Sennheiser products (like this one) and exclusive, special order products (like the HD 8XX). But like @ElectronicVices said, the drop listing will state if it’s sold with full manufacture’s warranty, like this one does.

EvshrugReputable quality companies that market their products on Drop, such as Sennheiser, tend to back up their warranties and return policies, so there's minimal consumer risk in purchasing through Drop. However, less reputable, smaller, younger, discount and even certain Asian suppliers have much less dependable return/exchange policies - if any - so it becomes a bigger risk. I've gotten stuck with a couple of less expensive, maybe crappy gadgets that I bought on Drop because the manufacturer/supplier was a two-bit garbage outfit. It happens. Generally speaking, the better reputation companies serve their products & customers well. Drop, however, can be a total brat that responds unsatisfactorily. Drop has lost more than a step from its former glory days.
