1st, this is a comparison review between the Summer Moon 3 (SM3) and the Kelty Trail Ridge 3 (TR3). Both great tents, but the SM3 is so much more. At the moment of writing this MassDrop has the SM3 for $139(no footprint), and the TR3 for $158 (w\footprint). But knowing what I do now, I'd hands down go with the SM3. It has better material in the floor construction, and quality of life improvements through-out. Even thought you have 1 door, it goes up higher and is larger. This allows for a much easier entry and exit of the tent compared to the TR3. The SM3 packs down into a much smaller footprint, roughly a 1/3 the size of the TR3. Set-up is easy for both tents, so I'll call that a draw. Storage is about the same as well. The SM3 has a few other features over the TR3. The reflective lantern works great. I thought It'd be gimmicky but it functions perfectly. The reflective guild lines through-out the tent are a nice touch as well. Most notably, the ventalation is better due to the design of the entire tent since the rainfly helps capture more air flow & lets heat out more easily, even if the wind isn't blowing. About the only thing the TR3 has over the SM3 is the additional vestiblue. The additional Vestiblue on the TR3 is nice, as we had our packs under 1 vestiblue, and a cooler under the other. We're keeping both tents, and using the TR as a loaner tent, as we'd like to invite friends to join us for camping. Anyways, I hope this helps and thanks for reading.

If the app allowed, I would give them a 4.8 rating as they deserve more than 4 stars but a bit under 5. We purchased a Summer Moon 2 and a Summer Moon 3 to replace our Serius 2 and 3 tents which while still serviceable in drier weather after about 20 years of regular use, the fabric had stretched enough in the corners that they could no longer be fully waterproofed. So far we are happy with our purchases. They represent a good value for the price. There are some trade offs between the two models such as the Summer Moon 2 does not have pockets in which to store small items. The Summer Moon 3 does. We have adjusted to having just one door instead of two but since I hike solo most of the time, this has not been an issue. If I hike with the grandkids, we sleep with the door at our feet in the Summer Moon 3 so no need to crawl over each other to get out. At first I sort of laughed at the little hanging light but have been pleasantly surprised at how well it really works. It lights up the whole tent rather than just a small area of the tent. It makes it easier to pack up in the Morning if I have to before daylight arrives. Also the string from which it hangs has made itself quite useful as a clothes lines for small things like socks, buffs or underwear when they are not fully dry using an outside line when night falls. We have not had any problems with condensation and its nice to leave the door open to sky watch which was something that was not possible with the bat wing design of our old Sierra Design tents. I have no problem setting up either tent by myself. The shorter tent pole sections have been an asset to us as they fit in more easily to both our bike panniers and the waterproof bags we use kayaking. I was not enamored of the new stuff sack design as I usually do not roll my tents up after use. I tend to smush them into a traditional dry sack when hiking. I was surprised to see that it could be done with these sacks as well although it takes a bit more manual dexterity and I will probably go back to a regular stuff sack and leave the ones they came in at home. If I have any worries at this point, it would be that the little rubber tips on Summer Moon 3 Rain Sheet will hold up over time or whether at some point I will be tying some sort of elaborate knot at the ends to secure them in the little claw feet on the corners.
