I have a sort of middle sized, mainly jazz, CD collection and enjoy the physicality of the media, cover slip, etc. This makes a heck of a lot more sense than vinyl to me. The product I would like to see is a transport-only CD player for single CD's so I can choose and integrate my own DAC (lots of options there). USB and optical outputs would be nice. Doesn't have to be full of high-end buzzwords, just deliver the bits, please.
bostonjackYou're bang, @bostonjack . A CD transport... I'll add in my own DAC. I want a 'universal' player. DVD... CD... Blueray... whatever. With OPPO universal players discontinued, I'd like something. Otherwise, I'm waiting for Schiit Audio to produce something. Pity...
ScubaManLakeHuronIf this is all you want, it's super-easy to build a "player" by buying the following parts:
- a Raspberry Pi 3 board
- a Hifiberry Digi board which will give you a digital audio out, and a case for the RPi+Hifiberry combo
- a USB CD drive
Load up LibreELEC, which is a software distro for Kodi. Hook up your TV to the HDMI output of the RPi. And sit back and just play.
You can of course choose any other digital audio output board instead of Hifiberry, provided you find a case which can hold the board and the RPi. The Allo DACs are supposedly superb, and are outstanding in conjunction with a Kali re-clocker. Options, options...
Though it's tiny, it manages to power even high ohm headsets with amazing accuracy. It works great with the drop usb-c to usb-c and my Phillips shp-9600. Soon enough I'll be using the Akoustyx...
I have an external amplifier with no integrated DAC and I only have an xduo xa10 as a dac/amp can I use the xduo xa10 as a dac only with an external amplifier?
