I detest this keyboard. I've had it for a while now and I keep trying to bend it and twist it to suit me. I just bought the Ergodox - it's at the post office now for pickup tomorrow. What I hate most about the TE is the fact that its not ergonomic - not even close - and the space bar is higher than the other keys so I keep hitting it when I don't want to and I have spaces all over my docs. If they split it in half, I think it would be all right. I guess it depends how much typing you do, but I'm a transcriptionist. I type 6 to 7 hours a day.

Pandora“Haters don't really hate you, they hate themselves; because you're a reflection of what they wish to be.”
Let’s face it, it’s easier to criticize than it is to create.
I've owned a TEK for over a year and I love it. It is indeed truly ergonomic, and it is a real product, a product you will love after the first weeks of adjustment.
Whenever you read a hate post recommending the ErgoDox, it means the ErgoDox troll team is at work. I have lost count when the ErgoDox troll team goes about lying inasmuch as possible against their competitors like the TEK (if you can call the ErgoDox - a box of parts – a product). Simply disregard any hate comment when anyone favors the ErgoDox, particularly if they haven’t used it like ‘Pandora’.
Massdrop is great way for anyone to be able to buy a great product with a great discount, not for hate trollers to waste everybody else’s time.
Feel free to read the following great reviews about the TEK to realize it is a great product: http://www.sacrideo.us/is-the-truly-ergonomic-truly-ergonomic http://nicholas.rinard.us/2011/12/truly-ergonomic-keyboard.html http://writepermission.com/2013/07/truly-ergonomic-full-review http://ergonomicinfo.com/reviews/truly-ergonomic-keyboard-review http://www.anandtech.com/print/6819
AztecaNot sure what you have against Pandora's comments. He mentions real problems that he had with the keyboard and that he was in the process of getting a different keyboard. His criticism of the TEK had some reasoning behind it and did not proclaim any great love for the Ergodox. He didn't say that everybody who likes the TEK is bad and that nobody should ever use it (that seems like your MO). Calling him a hater, a member of the Ergodox troll team, and calling what he wrote a hate post is hyperbole.

SonOfSonOfSpockI'm 59 years old. I've been typing since I was 14 before even electric typewriters. I'm simply voicing my own opinion. I don't like this keyboard. Having the space bar higher than everything else is absolutely pointless. It serves no purpose and it's highly inconvenient. How is it ergonomic? It forces your arms and shoulders into an unnatural position. Yes, it worked when I was 14 but the typewriters then were a completely different design. We had never heard of carpal tunnel and nobody had wrist problems. The only part of this keyboard that is ergonomic that I can see is having the keys down the middle. That's my opinion. You can do what you want with it but I'm picking up my Ergodox this afternoon. I do transcription for a living. Maybe for programmers it's a different story.
I have no connection to Massdrop or Ergodox or anybody else. I bought the TEK and I don't like it. I thought forums were a place to voice your opinions. Apparently it's only allowed if you agree with the masses -- MY bad. I like the layout, I just wish it was either a bit wider or in two parts.

DrossMine is the 207 US model and I'll be switching the key caps to blank ones because that's what this Ergodox drop will be coming with. I may hold onto it as a backup. I'm not sure yet.

PandoraDear Pandora, this is not a hate Forum, this is a Massdrop discussion about the TEK. If you do have a TEK, don't like it, and want to vent, go to http://geekhack.org/ and join the ErgoDox troll team; you write exactly like them. The spacebars are like 1mm taller than the rest, you’re just overstating a non-existent issue.
Intriguing that you praise the ErgoDox considering you haven’t used it. You may even ‘detest’ it more than the TEK for lack of Functions keys, excessive thumb use, lack of tenting parts, and the fact that it is a DIY where you need to solder, assemble, and buy keycaps separately.
Read above links of real reviewers making sense and showing the pros and cons of the TEK to make an informed decision.

lyrillThe reality is that in the world of customer support, TE stand apart as being completely terrible at what they do. For your reference, and obviously, for Azteca, who seems only to comment on this particular keyboard and is quite a vitriolic nutbar, I do own a TEK and a couple of ErgoDox. I'd have stuck with my TEK if their support was better, but in the end, being able to do everything I wanted with an ErgoDox was easier, and much less frustrating than waiting for weeks and then months for TE to reply to emails. The ultimate insult from their "support" was you initially get a "We've received your email" and then after a few weeks you get a form letter to exercise your keys. Life's too short for that shit.

AztecaSo what is your connection with TEK, are you ready to announce it or are you expecting everyone to ignore your bias and believe you hyperbole?

AdrianI have two of these keyboards and I love them. I'm responding to hilarious responses as I'm the one that suggested this Massdrop poll. Intriguing there are haters and cowards claiming they ‘detest’ everything and always conveniently suggest buying the ErgoDox-DIY-kit-Maltron-copycat; obviously as they are part of the ErgoDox troll team. Sad for those who admire haters and cowards, but despise people that love the unique product’s design and built quality.
How about just chatting about the pros and cons of Massdrop’s products instead of using this and any other ‘forum’ to detest and promote other products?
TEK cons: around 2 weeks to adjust; you will love it afterwards. cost; this Massdrop helps and it will last a long time. the position of some keys; reprogram them. double letters; upgrade firmware. tek’s customer support; very slow, but you will not be dealing with tek’s support, you will deal with Massdrop support.
TEK Pros: mechanical switches. awesome design; non-staggered layout, central keys, symmetric. grouped separate function keys. dual directional blocks and dual control-alt / command-option-control keys. very narrow. removable palmrest. fully reprogrammable with several layers.

AztecaGive it a rest, man. You sound like a tired, broken record. You're taking the critical comments personally just because you suggested this poll. It just sounds like you're a TEK fanboy who needs to defend a product to all detractors.

AABCDSPandora hates the TEK and loves the ErgoDox - even before receiving her ErgoDox, and everybody seems ok. Rambonobo conveniently prefers the ErgoDox over the TEK, and everybody seems ok. DharmaTurtle conveniently loves the ErgoDox over the TEK, even before having an ErgoDox and even not owing a TEK, and everybody seems ok. But anyone who likes/prefers/loves the TEK gets bashed.
Adrian and AABCDS firmly believe anyone who likes the TEK must work for them, but anyone who praises the ErgoDox-DIY-kit must be ok.
How come nobody has compared the TEK against the Kinesis/Maltron or any other ergo board in this 'discussion'? Because the 'humble' ErgoDox troll team players only care about bashing competitors to their beloved DIY-kit. Grow up.
Like the TEK, get one now. Prefer the ErgoDox, wait for the next bluemoon to get your box of parts without keycaps, and be ready to solder and assemble even if you have CTS/RSI. Hooray!

AztecaStop blowing this whole discussion out of proportion. 53 people purchased a keyboard in this group buy including myself. Everyone is railing on you because you are blowing everything out of proportion by taking comments personally and your hatred of the ergodox. Please just stop replying and filling this thread with your essays.

AztecaMy office purchased one of these to solve a chronic shoulder and upper back pain issue; it worked. I do not have one at home, and when I game with my Belkin Ergonomic from 2001, the pain resurfaces.
As such, I am extremely interested in acquiring one of these for my home. If I was able to deal only with Massdrop support, I would be much happier!
The TEK 209 Brown at my office has a spotty J key, and I wanted to contact TEK support. I still haven't heard back except for their form letter eleven days later. I know Massdrop support is better, so your post just sold me.
